Elle Fanning in Talks to Be Sleeping Beauty in Disney's 'Maleficent'
Earlier this year, we reported that production designer Robert Stromberg, the man behind work on films like Avatar, Burton's Alice in Wonderlandand Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, was ready to make his feature directorial debut with Maleficent, a twist on the classic Sleeping Beauty tale which tells the story from the perspective of the evil witch, to be played by Angelina Jolie, who can turn into a dragon. Now Twitch has word that Super 8 and Somewhere star Elle Fanning, the younger sister of Dakota Fanning, has landed the role of Princess Aurora, the young sent to sleep for longer than a short slumber in the old story.
Fanning most recently starred in We Bought a Zoo with Matt Damon, so she's no stranger to working with big name talent on the big screen, even if Angelina Jolie will be a force to be reckoned with as an evil sorceress. The actress also has had experience with great talent behind the camera with directors like Francis Ford Coppola, David Fincher and, of course, J.J. Abrams. Hopefully Stromberg knows how to wrangle teenage actors as well as he does creating worlds for big budget blockbusters. It sounds like this gestating project is finally coming together for Disney, and we'll keep you updated as best we can.
