First 'Star Trek Into Darkness' Trailer Also Playing with 'The Hobbit'
Fear not, Trekkies, even if you don't see The Hobbit in IMAX this December, you will still get to see some footage from J.J. Abrams' Star Trek Into Darkness sequel. It's one of my most anticipated movies of 2013 and I'm glad to hear they're giving it a big push this winter. Earlier in the week, it was announced that the first 9 minutes of the movie would be showing in front of The Hobbit in IMAX on December 14th. Now Trek Movie has learned, similar to The Dark Knight Rises marketing, an actual first trailer will also debut in front of regular Hobbit showings (before hitting the web likely on the Monday after the weekend). Read on!
Their scoop on the trailer explains "this Trek trailer is a completely different thing than the 9-minute preview of the beginning of the new movie" and it will not be screened with IMAX. They've confirmed it's just a regular trailer, not a condensed version of the prologue: "sources confirm the trailer contains material from many parts of the movie" and it will be a full theatrical trailer - not just a short teaser. Awesome. Can't wait to see it! No other details are known yet, but we'll obviously keep everyone updated on anything we hear and will post it in full as soon as it's out officially (now available to watch in high def online here).
Trek Movie also tried to talk to Chris Pine (aka James Tiberius Kirk) about the IMAX prologue footage, but even he didn't know it was happening: "The thing with JJ is that he's like the master puppeteer, so it's like none of us know anything, I didn't know that it was going to be shown, I don't know what the footage is, what's exciting for that for me is that I get excited so I want to go to the theatre to just to check it out. I'm excited for people to see this movie, it's bigger than the last one, we have a great villain, I can't wait until it's released." Me either! It should be an exciting December. Into Darkness hits theaters on May 17th.
