Ruby Sparks Official Trailer

Ruby who? Yea, haven't heard of this before either. The co-directors of indie smash hit Little Miss Sunshine, Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, are back after six years with a new romantic comedy titled Ruby Sparks, that almost has a somewhat familiar feel to Stranger Than Fiction. Actress Zoe Kazan wrote the script and plays the titular Ruby Sparks, a female character from one of Calvin's novels, who suddenly exists in real life one day. Paul Dano plays the struggling author, joined by Antonio Banderas, Annette Bening, Steve Coogan, Elliott Gould, Chris Messina & Deborah Ann Woll in the cast. The trailer just arrived online.

Watch the official trailer for Jonathan Dayton & Valerie Faris' Ruby Sparks, in high def from Apple:

Calvin (Paul Dano) is a young novelist who achieved success early in his career but is now struggling with his writing - as well as his romantic life. Finally, he makes a breakthrough and creates a character named Ruby who inspires him. When Calvin finds Ruby (Zoe Kazan), in the flesh, sitting on his couch about a week later, he is completely flabbergasted that his words have now turned into a living, breathing person.

Ruby Sparks is both directed by husband-wife filmmakers Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, of Little Miss Sunshine previously, as well as numerous music videos. The screenplay was written by actress Zoe Kazan, making her writing debut. Fox Searchlight is releasing Ruby Sparks in limited theaters July 25th. Anyone?

I usually HATE these kind of films. Then I saw Paul Dano's name, so I had to click play... It sure does look sweet.

the premise of this seems like the film could turn misogynistic really quick

Gotta wonder what obstacle he'll have to overcome if he can, outright, control everything she does. Maybe, at first, the words he writes determine how she acts, but then her unscripted experiences appear in the book? Only one way to find out

It was written by a woman so I'm thinking it wont... But I thought the same thing at first. 🙂

Trailer looks good, but I sense that this film might have a very sad, horribly depressing ending.

I love little miss sunshine, it really is an amazing indie gem. I was waiting for their next project, what took them so long? This seems nice, not what i expected, we'll see. Dano is a great actor and zoe kazan is such a charming woman, and it intrigues me that she wrote this
