Last we heard, Session 9 director Brad Anderson replaced Joel Schumacher to direct The Hive, a thriller about a 911 operator who must face her own fears in order to save a teenage girl from a deranged killer, but the project was still searching for a lead actress. Halle Berry had once been attached to star in the film, but was forced to drop out early this year due to scheduling conflicts. Supposedly several other "top actresses" were vying for the part afterwards, but a delayed start date means that Berry has an open slot in her schedule and she has now recommitted to the role. It's gotta be better than New Year's Eve. More below.
According to Variety, Rich D'Ovidio is writing a script based on a story idea crafted by him, Nicole D'Ovidio, and Jon Bokencamp. D'Ovidio hasn't had anything made in over ten years, and with only the Steven Seagal and DMX movie Exit Wounds and the Shannon Elizabeth horror flick Thir13en Ghosts under his belt, forgive me if I don't have much confidence in The Hive. Plus, Berry's not exactly making the best career choices these days. Sure, she's got the upcoming Cloud Atlas for the Wachowskis and Tom Tykwer, but she also recently appeared in New Year's Eve and has a terrible-looking shark movie called Dark Tide that's available now on VOD and in limited theaters March 30th. Anyone think The Hive could be good?
