Harvey Weinstein Courting Katy Perry to Star in Paul Potts' Biopic
While a concert film featuring the busty pop star is in the works, super producer and Hollywood heavyweight Harvey Weinstein (currently battling the MPAA in honor of his film Bully) is looking to light a fire under Katy Perry's acting career. While she's voiced a character in The Smurfs and guest starred on TV series like "How I Met Your Mother" and "Raising Hope," it looks like Weinstein wants her to deliver a more substantial performance. The producer is currently developing a biopic on English tenor Paul Potts, winner of the first "Britain's Got Talent" series in 2007, and is looking to have Perry maybe play Potts' wife.
Weistein told The New York Post (via THR), "I was talking to Katy about a new project, a possible dramatic role in the Paul Potts movie, which will be shooting in England soon. We’d really like someone like Katy or Adele to play the role of Potts’ wife, and Katy seemed genuinely interested." It doesn't sound like it's a done deal yet, but Perry seems a more likely candidate than Adele. While she hasn't really shown the potential for dramatic chops, Perry has great comedic timing and plenty of charisma. However, I'm not sure whether she can pull this off just yet. Stay tuned as more information on this project surfaces. For now, the film, titled One Chance, has no official cast members, but Weinstein says they're talking to an unnamed British actor for the lead role and The Devil Wears Prada David Frankel will direct.
