'Hot Tub Time Machine' Director Steven Pink to Helm 'Bad Santa 2'

Just this past February, nearly a year after learning that Billy Bob Thornton was negotiating to return to for the anticipated Bad Santa 2, a sequel to the 2003 R-rated holiday comedy, it was revealed that the sequel might get off the ground before the end of 2012. Since then we haven't heard any further development, including which of the two scripts from Johnny Rosenthal and John Phillips was chosen to get the greenlight. However, word comes from Deadline that Hot Tub Time Machine and Accepted director Steve Pink is now in early talks to not only direct the sequel, but also give the script a rewrite as well.
In February, Thornont said that they were planning to shoot this fall, and if the script gets rewritten quick enough and the supporting cast can be assembled, that could still very well be the case. Otherwise, it will be difficult to see the film hit the projected Christmas 2013 release. I can't imagine it will be very hard to shoot since it's not special effects intensive and doesn't have a big A-list cast to get together. By the time all is said and done though, it will have been a decade since the original film hit theaters. Comedy sequels like this that come so long after the original are hit or miss, but here's hoping it can deliver the laughs again.
