Hugh Laurie Playing the Villainous CEO of Omni Corp in 'RoboCop'

Hugh Laurie / Omni Corp

Now that the medical drama series "House M.D." is finally finished, it's time for Hugh Laurie to dive into different projects, and one of his first following the end of the series is a damn good choice. For years I've wanted to see Laurie take on some kind of bad guy role, and my dreams are coming true as Variety report the British actor is taking the villainous role of the cold, sarcastic CEO of Omni Corp, the company responsible for creating the cyborg cop after police officer Alex Murphy (played by "The Killing" star Joel Kinnaman) is killed in action but resurrected as RoboCop. Will he channel Dr. Gregory House for the role?

If the character is American, fans of the medical drama will likely recognize his cold, sarcastic attitude from the small screen, but taking that personality and injecting it into a character who is really a bad guy and not just an ass makes all the difference. Laurie sweetens an already great cast that includes Gary Oldman as the scientist who creates RoboCop, Samuel L. Jackson as some sort of TV mogul, and Abbie Cornish as the wife of Officer Murphy, who has no idea that he's being resurrected as a cyborg cop. Jose Padilha is directing the new origin story, and it's one hell of a way to make his English language debut.

I wasn't originally very enthusiastic about the idea of a Robocop remake, but this is getting more and more interesting!

I actually felt the same way. Thought this was total bullshit at first, but starting to open up a little. That and Gary Fucking Oldman is in it.

    ok......NOW im interested.....

Oh Man Genius! , hopefully this will launch Hugh into more movies! feels like Robo will be givin the treatment unlike most others
  • BinaryChaos
I just hope Robocop can run this time around instead of walking around with bad guys shooting rocket launchers at him. Talk about a sitting duck...
  • I need to see a trailer before I buy into this. The original is a classic and will be hard to live up to. But, I am willing to see what may come.

I wonder if he's going to be Dick Jones, or just some new character. I'll admit, they've come up with some Grade A casting for this. I kind of wish they would have gone the opposite route, casting some unknowns and Tara Reid, just so I could be happy in knowing it would tank. But it continues to intrigue...

my interest... it has peaked... ;l
  • Bazzmosis
Good actor, but hardly sinsister looking.

Totally forgot he was the dad in Stuart Little. Just sayin. :l

I'm definitely looking forward to this and I agree with BinaryChaos...I want to see RoboCop being a lot more physical (running, jumping, climbing, etc) instead of being so stiff. A sense of humor as the movie progresses would be nice to see also. I know the tech is going to be off the chain! Oh, and who's gonna play his partner Lois??

Yeah, its starting to get my attention as well.

I only hope he doesn't use his awful "American" accent in the movie.
  • Damn that cast alone is enough to sell me on this. Hugh was great in Black Adder. "You gotta treat a woman like an airplane, Get in and out of her five times a day and take her to heaven and back"
  • He's actually only in negotiations for now. Or more accurately: his agent is. Hugh Laurie himself is on a world tour with his blues music right now.
