Is There an 'Anchorman 2' Teaser Trailer Playing Before 'The Dictator'?
Just a few days ago, SlashFilm featured a small bit of potential sequel news saying that a Reddit user claimed there would be a teaser for Anchorman 2 attached to The Dictator when it hits theaters next Wednesday. The reader seemed to have a decent amount of information including the title Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues and also a running time of one minute and seven seconds. But with a script (that will partially deal with 24-hour news) still in the works and the film at least a year away, it seemed a little early for that. Of course, a Twitter update from director and writer Adam McKay seems to confirm that.
McKay tweeted earlier today:
"See 'The Dictator' (I worked on it and it's crazy funny), in addition to 'Campaign' trailer with Zach [Galifianakis] and Will [Ferrell] there's another treat before it."
McKay doesn't really have anything else in the works that would require a cryptic tease like that, and considering Paramount is behind both The Dictator and the Anchorman sequel, that's about all the detective work we need to do in order to confirm this rumor. The teaser is likely something McKay shot just to tease the film and I wouldn't expect anything to be shown that will actually be in the film. The question is whether the whole news team or any new cast members will appear in the teaser trailer. Either way, I'm betting the reaction from audiences is going to be great, and I can't wait to see it next week. Excited?
First Update: Collider has heard from another source, a reader who saw an advance screening of The Dictator, that a teaser for Anchoman 2 was attached to the film. Their source says, "Just got out of a screening of The Dictator. There is an Anchorman 2 teaser attached featuring the Channel 4 news team (minus Veronica) stating how excited they are to return, a concept that Brick [Steve Carell] seems to have a hard time with. Also, not sure if it was an official title or more of a slogan but the screen title read Anchorman: The Legend Continues followed by '2013'" Sounds like this is a pretty sure thing, folks.
