With the stunning Natalie Portman heading into Western territory with Jane Got a Gun, and Michael Fassbender (X-Men: First Class) joining her in the film from We Need to Talk About Kevin director Lynne Ramsey, this film already has our attention. But now the deal is even sweeter as Deadline reports Joel Edgerton (Warrior, The Great Gatsby) is now in talks to join the cast. The story follows a young woman (Portman) whose outlaw husband stumbles home pumped full of bullets, so she must reach out to a former lover (Fassbender) to help protect her homestead from the criminals who are on the way to finish the job.
Edgerton will be playing the husband, who will likely be in bed for most of the film, unless he's called upon for some sort of last stand against this gang. The actor has enjoyed quite the rise to stardom lately. This year saw him turn in performances in The Odd Life of Timothy Green (a charming film from Disney and the kind that usually doesn't get made anymore) and also the forthcoming Zero Dark Thirty, which is already garnering plenty of accolades from critics, including being named the Best Film of 2012 by the National Board of Review. There's likely plenty more rewards to come for Kathryn Bigelow's film, and that can only mean good news for Edgerton as one of the many stars in the ensemble cast.
