Since the release of Anchorman, each of the members of the Channel 4 News Team have had their fame skyrocket, with the exception of maybe David Koechner who is a recognizable, regular character actor but not exactly a superstar. But one member was almost not part of the equation as a recent interview with John C. Reilly from MTV reveals that that Step Brothers and Talladega Nights star was originally slated to play Brick Tamland, the weatherman who has an I.Q. of 48 and is what some people call mentally retarded, brought to life by Steve Carell. But that doesn't mean that we won't see the actor in the sequel.
As for his part in the first Anchorman, perhaps we ended up seeing Reilly's take on Brick Tamland after all. Though he's obviously not in Anchorman, Reilly has gone on to play field reporter and medical "expert" Dr. Steve Brule on Adult Swim's "Tim & Eric Awesome Show, Great Job," a character which was also given his own spin-off in the form of "Check It Out with Dr. Steve Brule." And if you haven't witnessed that comedic gold just yet, well take a gander at the clip below and then watch every hilarious episode as soon as you can:
Reilly was asked whether or not he'll make it into the recently approved Anchorman sequel (which will deal with the dawn of the 24-hour news cycle), and he simply said "We'll see." He would be a welcome addition to the returning cast of Will Ferrel, Paul Rudd, Steve Carell and David Koechner, not to mention presumed returning supporting members Christina Applegate and Vince Vaughn. Of course, there's plenty of other comedic actors who could show up on the news scene. Jonah Hill could play an intern at the station, Jason Segel a rival news anchor, and there's plenty of other possibilities. Any suggestions?
