Justin Theroux to Direct Will Ferrell & Steve Carell in 'Swear to God'
by Ethan Anderton
August 10, 2012
You'll probably recognize Justin Theroux from his recent turns in films like Wanderlust and Your Highness, or maybe even as the villain in Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle (there's plenty more great supporting performances from which to choose). However, the actor also has a career on the page and behind the camera as the writer of such screenplays as Tropic Thunder and Iron Man 2, not to mention being slated to write and direct Zoolander 2 whenever that sequel gets off the ground. But Deadline has word Theroux will direct the comedy Swear to God next starring Will Ferrell and Steve Carell. Read on!
Not too many details are known about the film, but Ferrell will play a narcissistic hedge fund manager who thinks he has seen God. Though we're not sure what role Carell plays, the film is supposed to focus on two main characters, so he's essentially the co-lead. When the film was first announced back in June, Adam McKay was originally slated to direct, but with Anchorman: The Legend Continues on the way, he's likely too busy to get the project off the ground quickly. The original script comes from Due Date writers Alan Cohen and Alan Freedland, but Theroux will rewrite it before going behind the camera. McKay is still producing with Ferrell through his Gary Sanchez Productions banner though.
