Lily Collins / Mortal Instruments

Back in December of 2010, we learned that Priest and now Mirror Mirror star Lily Collins had been tapped to play Clary Fray in adaptation of The City of Bones, the first book in Cassandra Clare's Mortal Instruments series. Now a press release (via Deadline) confirms the news over a year later. However, at the time, Scott Stewart was said to be at the helm of the feature, but Constantin Films and Unique Features have instead locked down The Karate Kid remake director Harald Zwart to direct. Apparently there's been a lot of speculation and buzz in Hollywood about who would get the gig, but we haven't heard much of that.

Anyway, for those just joining us, the story follows a seemingly ordinary teenager in New York City named Clary Fray, who discovers she is the descendant of a line of Shadowhunters, a secret cadre of young half-angel warriors locked in an ancient battle to protect our world from demons. After the disappearance of her mother, Clary must join forces with a group of Shadowhunters, who introduce her to a dangerous alternate New York called Downworld, filled with demons, warlocks, vampires, werewolves and other deadly creatures. Frankly, it sounds a lot better than Mirror Mirror looks in the trailers, and if the film ends up bombing, then this should serve as a much better launching point for a bright career for Collins.

The books are garbage. They try to be reminiscent of Harry Potter, but it's just Twilight with main characters who are believed to be brother and sister. Seriously. That is the best reason for "forbidden love" the author could come up with.
