Lea Michele and Martin Short in Trailer for Animated 'Dorothy of Oz'

September 4, 2012

Dorothy of Oz

There's been an increased interest lately in returning to L. Frank Baum's wonderful world of Oz on the big screen. Sam Raimi is tackling a prequel to the classic Wizard of Oz story with his upcoming Oz The Great and Powerful, and Stephen Daldry (Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close) could be helming a feature film adaptation of the Broadway hit Wicked, which is an origin story for the Wicked Witch of the West. Here's the trailer for another Oz-related tale called Dorothy of Oz, an animated sequel that looks more like a video game than a movie. It follows Dorothy as she returns to save the magical land from an evil jester.

Here's the first trailer for Will Finn & Dan St. Pierre's Dorothy of Oz via YouTube:

Directed by Will Finn & Dan St. Pierre and written by Adam Balsam & Barry Glasser (from Roger Baum's book), Dorothy of Oz features the voice talents of "Glee" star Lea Michele as Dorothy (who will get to use her singing voice as well), Patrick Stewart, Martin Short, Oliver Platt, Dan Akyroyd, Kelsey Grammer, Hugh Dancy, James Belushi, and more. Production is currently underway on the CG project, and upstart Summertime Entertainment has slated it for release sometime in 2013. Interested?

Are you kidding me, it looks more like a crack addict vision of oz than a video game. It's sad to see many of hollywoods great actors like Patrick Stewart and Kelsey Grammer getting downgraded to this level...speaking of that Professor X and Beast?? Wtf
  • It looks so... cheap and terrible... I was expecting so much more.

this looks atrocious....and i'm pretty sure that's the first time i've ever used that word.
  • Epic Fail!!

What? No mention of Bernadette Peters, a legend on Broadway, who is playing a legendary role, Glinda? Why?
  • with all those actors, I too expected more.

They never said what platform this game would be released in..

Wow, this looks incredibly BAD. There's not one good thing about this film. Who's the director? Who's the digital supe? They should never be allowed to make a film again.

This looks like some straight-to-DVD crap. And I really hate Lea Michele's voice so much, you couldn't pay me enough to sit through 2 hours of her singing.
  • The Truth
Looks like it is aimed for retarded toddlers!

This is a really good cast in what appears to be a really bad movie. Shame.
  • This has princesses, toys, lions, candy, and the guy who plays the voice of the Cat in the Hat on PBS (Martin Short). My 3 year old daughter is going to go absolutely ape shit for this film so I'm guessing that's their target audience because she's not going to care how cheap the animation looks.

  • HarryFiddleSticks
I see that a big part of the budget went to the actors
  • Worst trailer ever! ...and well the movie look too boring
  • This has a 'Barbie Fairytale' vibe to it. Which isn't good really. Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyy? Just why.
