Luke Evans Offered Jason Statham's Villain Role in 'Fast & Furious 6'

Luke Evans

Just recently a rumor sprouted that Rihanna, who will make her big screen debut in Battleship this summer, might be in the mix for a villain role in Fast and Furious 6 (which just added Michelle Rodriguez back into the mix). While the jury is still out on that one, it seems like she wouldn't be the main villain as Twitch has word that British actor Luke Evans, who can currently be seen in The Raven, has been offered the lead antagonist role, a part that was originally meant for Jason Statham before The Transporter himself turned it down. Evans is basically a less gruff version of Statham, so it's not inspired casting, but it makes sense.

If anything, this at least confirms that director Justin Lin is looking for some sort of British bad guy, which likely means that the action will definitely be heading overseas as has been rumored. It's just a shame that the Fast and Furious franchise is a better written series with characters that have depth. If that were the case some more attractive talent like could be drawn in for a villainous role. That's not to say Evans isn't a quality actor (after all, he's booked a role in The Hobbit this year as well), but he's not exactly the most exciting talent choice out there. Then again, it's hard to find British talent with the muscle to go head-to-head with Vin Diesel and his crew, so maybe Evans is the best choice after Statham. Thoughts?

Not a bad move...he was pretty good in Immortals.

Loved him in Immortals, although the movie wasn't that good.  ANYONE other than Statham.

He's Welsh. I know everyone groups those across the pond as British, but most American's will think he's English when reading 'British,' when in fact, he's Welsh. In any event, I think that'd be great. Evans was solid in Immortals, playing 'young' Zeus, the father, king of kings, mentor, and friend amazingly. He has been great in everything I've seen of his thus far. Including The Raven, for me, he was the best actor in that movie. If he is, I will be in the theaters watching.

PS: I am aware that Wales is a part of Great Britain, was just stating he's Welsh, and I'm sure would prefer for his nationality to be correct and not just a grouping of countries.
At least he didn't call him English...^^
What is this? A glimmer of hope?! An act like this almost balances the scales of justice.

These FnF movies are getting stuffed with stars like a 1970's disaster film.
  • Statham TOO good? Despite some of his awesome movies he has made terrible ones much much worse than any of the Fast and Furious movies which keep getting better... Blitz, War, Dungeon Siege (puke!!), The Mechanic was OK was was Cellular, Transporter 2-3.... Yeah
