Mark Wahlberg Set to Walk Around the Neighborhood as 'Avon Man'
The last we heard of the Fox comedy Avon Man was that Hugh Jackman had officially joined the project from director Kevin Lima (Enchanted), and that was two years ago. Since then, Jackman has found himself quite busy, and likely without enough time to sell make-up door-to-door. Cue Deadline's report that Mark Wahlberg is now in talks to lead the comedy, and he will also produce the film as well. However, the film is now without a director and Michael McCullers (of Baby Mama and "Saturday Night Live" writing fame) will write a new draft of the script which was originally penned by Hitch screenwriter Kevin Bisch. More below!
The story follows a car salesman who loses his job and turns reluctantly to sales of Avon cosmetics to make ends meet, eventually becoming a top salesman. The comedy takes on a Full Monty vibe when the salesman sets out to save his financially strapped family and town by conscripting all his jobless buddies into the makeup business to win a regional contest. While I would've loved to see Jackman flex his comedic chops in a film like this, Wahlberg isn't a bad replacement, especially following his work in films like The Other Guys and the promising Seth MacFarlane comedy Ted. But the question remains as to who will come on board to direct the film with Lima no longer involved. Stay tuned.
