The Tall Man

"It was like an ancient legend… something from a book of fairy tales, or an old song." Damn this looks good. Thanks to Vlicious, we have an international (French) trailer for the film The Tall Man, which we featured the first poster for earlier this week. The film is called The Secret in France, written & directed by Pascal Laugier (Martyrs), starring Jessica Biel and Jodelle Ferland, about a guy who takes children. This trailer is way better than I was expecting. It looks totally chilling and unsettling, but also surprisingly well-made. There's a very tense vibe to it, and I'm curious to find out what's really going on. Check this out!

Watch the first full trailer for Pascal Laugier's horror The Tall Man aka The Secret, from YouTube:

Here's the synopsis for Pascal Laugier's The Tall Man: In an isolated, slowly dying mining town, children are vanishing without a trace – abducted, the townsfolk whisper, by a mysterious entity known locally as "The Tall Man." Town nurse Julia Denning (Biel) seems skeptical… until her young David disappears in the middle of night. Frantic to rescue the boy, Julia lives every parent’s darkest nightmare in this twisting, shock-around-each-corner thriller from acclaimed director Pascal Laugier. Also stars: Jodelle Ferland, Stephen McHattie and Jakob Davies. Image Ent. is finally releasing The Tall Man on August 31st this year.

I'm sort of getting a Slenderman vibe for the inspiration for this movie, but that could just be me, I'm sure there are several similar entities that inspire this kind of plot
    • I actually came here thinking there was some kind of movie production based on the Slenderman creepypasta! But evidently this has nothing to do with that. And yes, it does look like a very handsome production. I hope it actually reaches for some maturity as suggested in the trailer.
    • It's cool cause the only thing good about the Slenderman thing was those first few images. Every single subsequent project has made it lamer.
      • SuicidalOptimist
Yeah, those pics where he's just standing somewhere in the shadows of a tree in the background freaked me out, haha. Though, watching the Youtube videos about him late at night by myself were not exactly a great idea, either.
        • Slenderman thrives in text and everything that is implied. Slenderman only works as a blurry, distant figure, and when they get into orign stories and brainwashing and parallel-dimensions, it becomes silly. You look too long at it and you fuck everything up. Marble Hornets tried to find a way around this but just ended up being really fucking boring.

Yeah, the mystery around it is what made this idea of Slenderman so creepy. That skinny, tall and blurry figure with those long arms, wearing a suit...lurking behind a hedge. It's funny how freaky the pictures were even when you knew he was just a "monster" someone created one night in an online forum with some clever use of photoshop. 😉
          • Yeah. It was the Something Awful Forums and it was like 4 pictures that started it. What's funny is it was created so recently, but it has become so viral that people are asking "So what's the REAL story behind Slenderman?" Long story short people suck and are retarded,
  • SuicidalOptimist
Hm. Considering that it's from the guy who made Martyrs, this was an extremely tame trailer. It didn't feel exceptionally creepy, either. I gotta admit, I'm kinda disappointed. Maybe a later trailer will up the ante a little and peak my interest. Also, the Tall Man keeps reminding me of that fisherman from I Know What You Did Last Summer, minus the hook in his hand.

Man, I have no idea so I exhausted my google-fu abilities. I couldn't find anything!

There's an app for that. Just play the song, hold your smart phone up and it will tell you :)

Windows Phone :/ Can someone come through with this for me?
          • You can get Soundhound for Windows Phone. I have it on my Lumia 800. I think Shazam is available as well. Both are good.

Ok am i missing something? what about this is MUST WATCH? this looks like every other serial killer/kidnapper movie..doesnt even seem supernatural or anything Is this like a sponsored "influenced" post ? im really not seeing why you would call this a must watch and talk this up...nothing chilling or unsettling here will clearly bomb..and I bet 100 bucks (and will pay up) if im wrong. come on guys..pls dont lose your track record of being so great at identifying good movies/trailers

It looks boring to me, more like a thriller than horror, a weak one that is
  • Ehsan Davodi
Incomparable to " Martyers " (i mean for its weaknesses) Full Of Cliches , Waste of Jessica Biel , I'm out
  • Nick
100 bucks says that the ending of the movie is that Jessica Biel's character is crazy and she made all of it up in her head.
    • iamNotLegend
lol... if its called "the secret"... i bet it ends with with towns people killing jessica since it was their secret that they kidnapped their own children...???
  • Mihkel
Why does Jessica Biel look so pale?

it doesn't work that app i tried @2d17d5e6c84e46e8624b37c7348f6152:disqus
  • Some incredibly lazy policing going on in that town.
  • Adam
    Chilling? Heh!!!
  • I really hate how other countries feel the need to change the titles of the movie. Also if you're going to change it why not translate it directly (as literal as possible) instead of nonsense stuff you think more people will understand? Makes no sense to me.
  • SleepInduced
We need a Slenderman movie. This movie looks like an attempt to put Slenderman IRL. Eff Dat.
