Jack Reacher Trailer

"He doesn't care about proof. He doesn't care about the law. He only cares about what's right." We got a taste of Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher in a low quality, Russian dubbed trailer over the weekend, but now the official US trailer is here, and it has Cruise being a genuine bad-ass. Essentially, this feels like Cruise's attempt to make something like Taken or Drive, perhaps a combination of the two since Cruise is an older actor like Liam Neeson, but seems to be playing a kick-ass vigilante with a killer car like Ryan Gosling. This definitely shows promise, and continues to prove that Cruise is still in his prime. Watch the trailer below!

Here's the first trailer for Christopher McQuarrie's Jack Reacher, originally via Yahoo:

Six shots. Five dead. One heartland city thrown into a state of terror. But within hours the cops have it solved: a slam-dunk case. Except for one thing. The accused man says: You got the wrong guy. Then he says: Get Reacher for me. And sure enough, ex-military investigator Jack Reacher (Tom Cruise) knows the killer is a trained military sniper who never should have missed a shot. Reacher is certain something is not right–and soon the slam-dunk case explodes. Christopher McQuarrie (director The Way of the Gun and writer of The Usual Suspects) writers and directs this film which also stars Werner Herzog, Rosamund Pike and Richard Jenkins. Paramount Pictures is sending Jack Reacher to theaters on December 21st this year.

      I know right!!!! lol
  • fun trailer

love the bad ass feel of it. the shot of his hand clenching over the throttle is pretty damn good. I just hope it's not all just stunts and action but there is an equal story matching with it. this could be really good.... =)
  • Looks like Ethan Hunt once more to me ... even the first few notes of the tune are the same.
  • one
is it just me or was that a terrible trailer? the music sounded like the MI:2 soundtrack ...the whole thing just felt cheesy.
  • Eric
Sorry......Tom Cruise is not Jack Reacher.
  • JM
Jack Reacher is not a good driver in the books. In fact, he doesn't have a license. Not sure why they took such a 180-degree turn with this. It's like they're doing it to spite the author.
    • Reacher meant to be over 6"too
    • Akirakorn
Well the front end of that Chevelle is smashed up. Maybe he tried parallel parking in the first act.
  • Andy
Jack Reacher is supposed to be a 6' 5" 250 pound giant that makes bad guys cringe when he so much as looks at them. The books go out in length to emphasize this fact and how he uses that size to his advantage. I am not being whiny here and Cruise is a good actor but as a die-hard fan of the books him in this role will never look right for me. And I will never understand how Lee Child himself endorsed this casting. I guess money talks.
    • Doyle
      You definitely are being whiny.
    • Akirakorn
I used to say the same thing about Wolverine getting constantly teased for being 5'2, then they cast a 6'2 actor for the role. I guess they finally figured out Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel aren't as bankable without a franchise as they thought. Too bad they didn't take a chance on a comeback vehicle for Brendan Frasier.

You think you are a cool because you pirate and talk about it? Dork.
  • Geeb
I'm huge fan of the novels. I am very disappointed in the casting of Tom Cruise (Reacher is a mountain of a man in the books). Otherwise the movie still looks good and will be going to see it anyway!
  • Karlangas
    Drive meets Collateral.
  • truong18
    seem like another MI
  • Kaysi
Who the hell cares that Jack Reacher in the book is physically more intimidating than Tom Cruise will every be? And why the hell is everyone acting like this is the first time many of a book's details have been changed for celluloid? I think Tom Cruise looks good in this trailer, very good. His Reacher has a menace to him that Ethan Hunt does not have so this is not another MI redo.
    • Andy
Dude, it's because that's like you swap Stallone in Rocky and put Jet Li instead facing apollo, Strap a pair of gloves on him and tell him hey you can't use any marital arts, you can only punch your opponent. Sure Jet Li has looked menacing in other movies, hell he can even look menacing in the ring but you would not believe a man of his stature can go toe to toe with heavy weight in a boxing match. That is exactly the case here. The books built up this persona of the man Reacher and he has certain feature and traits. Cruise can look as menacing as much as he can try but it won't give out the same persona as Reacher. Dude Reacher is described as 6'5"/ 250pounds. Cruise is a good actor and he does look great in the trailer. If they had changed the character's name to Jeff Creature or something and cast Tom in another movie, then I wouldn't have any problem with it. But Tom Cruise is not the Reacher in the books and he never can be.
      • beevis
agreed! TC was very menacing as a hitman in "collateral" - but he isn't in this trailer.
        • grimjob
Yeah, he was awesome in Collateral. The scene with the jazz musician was the shit!
          • beevis
it was an excellent scene..... for a minute, i thought he was gonna let him go. i also liked the jamie fox scene where he has to go to the mafia big boss and explain why he needs the info given to him again - and the boss tells the santa clause story?.....priceless!.
    • beevis
maybe - and while i like cruises acting, he isn't nearly as imposing as neeson was in "taken". i don't think this is a characer that suits cruise.
      • ccoltmanm
        Have you ever seen Collateral?
        • beevis
yep......apparently you don't pay attention when watching movies. in that one, TC plays a hitman......and does it very well. but, this character is more of a badass butt-kicker - NOT a hitman. and i don't think cruise is that type of actor.
          • ccoltmanm
You think the difference between a hit man and an ex cop is that big of a difference. You are arguing dynamics. They do the same thing in this movie. Go after guys an beat then up or kill them.
          • grimjob
The difference here though is that he's supposed to be a tough guy, whereas in Collateral he was a cold, calculating assassin. I prefer him as the latter, although I'm sure he'll be good in this as well.
          • Glad you guys pointed these points out since the whole time watching the trailer I kept saying to myself "it's ethan hunt as jack reacher"
    • Mike P.
Agreed. Maybe it's not meant to be a fact-for-fact translation. I never even heard of the books and this trailer to me looks like a bad ass movie. Like an urban western. Definitely gonna check it out.
    • Bl00dwerK
That's the main reason I don't read books. I like movies WAY too much...
  • gpldan
First Tom wrecks Katie, then he wrecks a 1970 Chevelle SS 396? Dude keeps breaking fine things.
    • And before that there was Nicole. I just hope Katie doesn't go on a plastic surgery escapade like Nicole did. By the by, Jack be smackin' some asses in this trailer.
  • every agreed Tom Cruise the worse choice for Reacher. Mountain of a man you can see in the trailer everyone's a foot taller then him. it look like a joke when you see every one standing around him.
  • Hmm...
  • grimjob
Never read the books, so I have no basis for comparison. In my ignorance, I think this looks pretty rad!
  • TDND
Damn well that's sad. I was willing to forgive the Tom as Reacher thing but they did't even try. They had to scale down the people he faces so that he can seem tough. Only car he drives in the book is a honda. I know the Chevy looks cooler but this just seems like it twisted a good book with twists and turns into "Oh look Tom Cruise is fighting and driving in an intense way again!!" Joy.
    • Akirakorn
Honda? that sounds nice, I mean a badass character rolling around in a s==tbox. Tired of the cliche' Chevelle all these anti-heroes are driving in all these dumb movies.
  • Nothing about this trailer makes me want to see more.
  • darthwhitey
This role just doesn't seem to work with a 5'3" Tom Cruise is an ass kicker. Maybe this is just a bad first trailer?
  • Mick
Low camera angles, in-car shots. Just to disguise how tiny Cruise is. Ridiculous casting. I'll wait for the reboot.
  • Brandon
Tom Cruise is the man. Anyone who says different is a fool.
  • chjapa
Ive read a couple of the novels too, but you guys are forgetting one thing. Mcquarries got talent. "Way of the Gun" was/is way overrated and if its anything like that, it will be great.
    • Cody W
      Hope you meant underrated
  • drnknjbbrsh
I'm trademarking this: Jack Reacheround (reacharound)
  • Rain Spider
It's all good people, Just close your eyes and pretend it's Armie hammer.............. Seriously tho, I always thought Tom Cruise was kind of a Streisand, but he looks like he's rocking the shit in this one.
  • I'm reading a lot of "Cruise isn't menacing" comments. Start this movie with the clip of Cruise jumping up and down on Oprah's couch when he first started dating Katie "Sugar Lips" Holmes and you'll think he's the scariest mother fucker you've ever met in your life. Case closed. Have a happy 4th!
  • ek
Whilst Cruise's definately not mine and many's first choice for the lead, coupled with what the trailor portrays of Reachers through Cruise, I feel its lacking the gravitas that you take from the books by a quite a stretch. Still, excited about the movie though, even with the choice. Always enjoy action and suspense and I think the movie will still dish that in spades, in a Reacheresque fashion.
  • dom
Nor sure what to think really.. it just feels like a rehash of old - but tom cruise is somehow always worth seeing.
  • Scotty97
Looks good, but too bad it's coming at the worst possible time for the Tom Cruise "brand".
  • Looked good up until that last sequence
  • Nadir Ahmed
is it me or did anyone else hear that, the background music sounded slightly too similar to the 'Mission Impossible' music. Is Parmount trying to subliminly make us think of Mission Impossible as they try to make this a big box office hit as well
  • Tidjay
    Be prepared, Jack Slater !
  • Joshua Simpkins
Looks Good! I'll check it out. I've always like Christopher McQuarrie.
  • Cody W
You had me at "director of The way of the gun"
  • Looks like the kinda film that would star Nicolas Cage. I would be more intrested if Cage starred, than Cruise who just grinds on me!
  • Payne by name
As the director said, I think some people are confusing character with characteristics. I think if Tom and the director can bring the ethos of the dangerous, have no fear vigilante to the screen, then that works for me.
  • Dan
I generally like Cruise, but this just isn't him... as everyone said the books paint a far different picture. Personally I'd have thought they'd have done much better with Mickie Rourke for this kind of a hard ass role
  • ChrisReacher
Why not get Chis Hemsworth? The guy can seriously act and perfectly fits Reacher's description... just need to age him a tad
  • silentjay
ahhh in the books Jack Reacher is 6'5' and all muscle so you give it to Tom Cruise 5' 4' and small? What the HELL!!!!
  • paul neve
he would have been better as repairman jack !!
  • Jrfan47
I have the benifet if loveing the book and watching the movie im disapointed and to hear that TC owns the rights to the rest of the books is enough to make a person cry im not foing to buy the movie nor will I watch a sequel if they make one and I dont recomend it for neone to watch
