Natalie Portman is Heading into the Wild West for 'Jane Got a Gun'

Natalie Portman

In the past couple years, Natalie Portman has been genre jumping from the twisted horror drama of Black Swan to the raunchy romantic comedy of No Strings Attached and the fantasy stoner laughs of Your Highness and the Marvel comic book action of Thor (with a fleeting mention in The Avengers). Now she's going to head into the western genre for the first time (unless you consider Cold Mountain to fit in that classification) in a film called Jane Got a Gun, which she'll also produce. The script from Brian Duffield was on the Black List and now We Need to Talk About Kevin director Lynne Ramsey is attached to helm.

THR reports there's a bidding war over at Cannes right now to snag the project with foreign sales agents, financiers and some studios from Los Angeles in the mix to pick it up. In fact, it could end up being funded by a combination of those resources, and with that kind of collaboration from around the world, it must be one hell of a script. Speaking of which, the story focuses on a woman whose outlaw husband returns home barely alive and riddled with bullet wounds. She is forced to reach out to an ex-lover and ask if he will help defend her farm when her husband’s gang eventually tracks him down to finish the job. Hopefully Portman will also be wielding some six shooters of her own, but we'll have to wait and see. Interested?

not really interested....i love westerns - but not portman. i didn't care for black swan. i'll watch for a trailer for sure since it is a western - but if it's portman toting colts, i'll pass.

it'd be cool to see Josh Brolin as the ex-lover.

hugh jackman needs to do more westerns, he has the perfect look for it, look at Australia, he was the quintessential cowboy, and since this is really the only western i have heard of in the works besides Django, he should team up with portman and it would be a really good film

She should do a sequel to Leon: The Professional.

Seriously. Jane can't kill Loki with a gun.

A Hot Lovely Woman want take place of John Wain ! I doubt that but yeah bring it on! This is cinema magic ! I also agree with mr.Max Renn completely And I believe Hot Talented Natali create for Drama . Yeas to me Leon was more drama until action too. I like his playing in "Other Boylin Girl" more than Black Swan. I m big fan of she and her works. Black Swan was masterpiece. I think this role was fit to her but she must practice very hard, This can be another turning point for her career. We don't have much woman view western that be memorable. Very intersted and awaiting
