Natalie Portman is Heading into the Wild West for 'Jane Got a Gun'
In the past couple years, Natalie Portman has been genre jumping from the twisted horror drama of Black Swan to the raunchy romantic comedy of No Strings Attached and the fantasy stoner laughs of Your Highness and the Marvel comic book action of Thor (with a fleeting mention in The Avengers). Now she's going to head into the western genre for the first time (unless you consider Cold Mountain to fit in that classification) in a film called Jane Got a Gun, which she'll also produce. The script from Brian Duffield was on the Black List and now We Need to Talk About Kevin director Lynne Ramsey is attached to helm.
THR reports there's a bidding war over at Cannes right now to snag the project with foreign sales agents, financiers and some studios from Los Angeles in the mix to pick it up. In fact, it could end up being funded by a combination of those resources, and with that kind of collaboration from around the world, it must be one hell of a script. Speaking of which, the story focuses on a woman whose outlaw husband returns home barely alive and riddled with bullet wounds. She is forced to reach out to an ex-lover and ask if he will help defend her farm when her husband’s gang eventually tracks him down to finish the job. Hopefully Portman will also be wielding some six shooters of her own, but we'll have to wait and see. Interested?
