'Rise of the Planet of the Apes' Writers Will Script 'Jurassic Park 4'
Over a year ago we learned the exciting news that Steven Spielberg was meeting with screenwriter Mark Protosevich (the guy who was working with the director on that dead Oldboy remake with Will Smith) to develop ideas for Jurassic Park 4, a potential franchise reboot. Later in the summer, Spielberg confirmed exploration of a sequel, but said he probably wouldn't direct. Well, now we finally have some real development on the project as Deadline reports Rise of the Planet of the Apes screenwriters Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver have been hired to write the sequel with Spielberg and Kathleen Kennedy both producing.
As of now there are no plot details, but this is the most solid news we've gotten on the potential sequel, and we still don't know if it will act as a franchise reboot to open up for more sequels. While it's wholly exciting that life found a way into this long rumored project, a lot is riding on this script, so hopefully this writing duo can deliver. They successfully pulled of a Planet of the Apes sequel, so I'd say they're probably the best people for the job. Universal is likely testing the Jurassic Park interest pool with their re-release of the first film in 3D next summer on July 19th, 2013. Here's hoping it's not any worse than the third installment, and brings back Jeff Goldblum. But what will we do without Stan Winston and his magnificent effects?
