Holy crap, this is awesome. If you're a fan of scores and love the scoring process, composing, this is a must see. Our friends at AICN have debuted a superb featurette on the composing work of Nathan Johnson, cousin of director Rian Johnson, for his new film Looper, starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt & Bruce Willis. It delves into his process, which began by recording sounds in New Orleans while filming, then constructing it to form a "new orchestra", a kind of dark, gritty, rhythmic, sci-fi score; it sounds amazing. This is why I love Rian Johnson - his films are so extraordinarily unique, with touches like this that make them stand out.
Watch the featurette on Nathan Johnson's score for Rian Johnson's Looper, originally from AICN:
You can follow Nathan Johnson on Tumblr or Twitter. He's also appearing with Rian on a Comic-Con panel.
In 2072, when the mob wants to get rid of someone, a target is sent 30 years into the past, where a hired gun awaits. Someone like Joe, who learns they want to "close the loop" by sending back Joe's future self.
Looper is the third film from Rian Johnson following his breakout hit Brick and The Brothers Bloom after that. Looper focuses on a mobster named Joe, played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt. The movie also stars Piper Perabo, Jeff Daniels and Paul Dano. Looper hits theaters everywhere starting on September 28th this fall.
