TGB Episode 112: Of Xenomorphs & Stars (Guests: Richard Kelly & Massawyrm)

June 8, 2012

The Golden Briefcase - Alien

On this week's episode of The Golden Briefcase, Tim & Jeremy are joined by esteemed guests: director Richard Kelly (Donnie Darko, Southland Tales, The Box) and C. Robert Cargill aka Massawyrm of Ain't It Cool News to chat about their latest Picks of the Week and the first trailer for Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained. The guys then take time to dive deep into the complete Alien mythology by talking in depth about each entry in the franchise, including this weekend's Prometheus. They talk about how the franchise has evolved, how Scott fits Prometheus into things and where the series still could go in the future. Enjoy!

The Golden Briefcase is also broadcast LIVE on Wednesday nights starting ~7:30PM PST. You can listen in via our Ustream page or by visiting our own live page right here on FS. The podcast is just as fun to listen to live while it's being recorded, with plenty of special guests, so I suggest you tune in the next time it records!

Very fine episode guys! Great to review some of the high points of the series. I read a tweet last week that really made me smile when the person wrote "You know you're an adult when you prefer Alien to Aliens". Nothing wrong with a little Colonial Marines and their Sentry guns (which to this day the 8 year old in me quotes almost daily:P), but the "haunted house on a space ship" simplicity just gets in your bones. Just one of the many reason it is so highly regarded and holds up. One of Prometheus' many strengths is that it's not an open and shut film and better still that it's not a prequel to Alien. It offers more questions than it answers so they, should they want, leave it wide open to explore so many more angles and possible/branching story lines. I just hope the next fare isn't so LOST-esqe.  Give it time to marinate and it will soon be realized as another Ridley Scott game-changer. Certainly one film I am very very very eager to see again real soon.  Well thanks for the great listen, looking forward to an episode about Pixar/Brave, or better, hear you talk up Oliver Stone:) Take it easy fellas!
