With Wedding Crashers stars Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson becoming interns, apparently being a non-paid slave to corporate America is just all the rage in Hollywood right now. Deadline has word on another such project called The Intern set up at Paramount Pictures. Nancy Meyers (It's Complicated, The Holiday), who is basically a slightly less stellar Nora Ephron, is directing from her own script, and she'll be getting a bit of a boost from Tina Fey who is attached to star in the film. The film has elements of another romantic comedy, but is more about a blossoming friendship at the heart of the story. More below!
Fey is slated to play the founder of an online fashion business thriving from success. However, things get shaken up when she's informed that the company is importing seniors to be interns as a community outreach effort, and one will be under her tutelage. No they're not seniors in high school or even college, but rather senior citizens, geriatrics, old people. Enter our titular character, an over 70-year old widower bored with retirement who is initially a nuisance but grows to be an invaluable part of her life as the bond and develop a touching friendship. Meyers has an older actor in mind for the part (I wish Jack Lemmon was still alive to work with Liz Lemon), but she hasn't reavealed who just yet. Meyers films are cheesy but have some clever writing and some nice touches of heart and charm. The film likely won't shoot until Fey is done shooting the next season of "30 Rock" sometime in 2013, so stay tuned.
