'Tinker Tailor' Star Svetlana Khodchenkova is Viper in 'The Wolverine'

Well, that was fast. Last week during Comic-Con word came through that Jessica Biel was in talks to take the role of the villain vixen Viper in The Wolverine. However, shortly after the news broke, Biel told several reporters during a press conference that it wasn't a done deal yet. Yesterday several outlets reported negotiations with Biel had fallen through and a new actress was being sought for the role. Now today Twitch has word that the lesser known Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy actress Svetlana Khodchenkova, a woman straight out of Russia, is now in talks for the role and the deal is expected to be finalized soon. Viper isn't just some prototypical villain as the character has a complicated relationship with Logan in the comics. One story saw Viper blackmailing Logan into marrying her to secure a criminal empire in Madripoor, a fictional island in Southeast Asia. The nation ends up being taken over by Viper, who then goes by the name Madame Hydra (the latter name also serving as the identifier for her criminal organization). It seems strange for Fox to jump from such a well known name like Biel to an actress who hasn't been seen much by US audiences in such a high profile film, but this is how big breaks are made.
