Video Blog: Marvel's 'The Avengers' Initial Reactions with SlashFilm

After releasing in international theaters last weekend, Disney and Marvel Studios are finally opening Joss Whedon's The Avengers in theaters in the US this week. The movie actually screened about three weeks ago at its world premiere in Los Angeles, where a large number of movie bloggers/press first saw the movie inside the world famous Grauman's Chinese. Following the screening, immediately after, I met up with a few friends like Peter Sciretta and Germain Lussier, both of SlashFilm, to discuss our initial reactions and thoughts on the kick ass superhero movie we just saw. I'm prefacing this with the reminder that we recorded three weeks ago after our first screening of it, though I'm excited to see it a few more times as soon as I can.

For those that have seen The Avengers as well, you already know how awesome it is. You also know how much you need to see it multiple times to really take it in, which I need to do this weekend. It really delivers and, as we say many times in this video, it gets better and better as it goes on. Epic, to say the least. I was happy to talk about right after because we had such fresh, exciting thoughts on it and we weren't hampered down by too much criticism that has come up since. Joss Whedon delivers in huge ways, and impressed all of us quite a bit, which is a great feeling considering how big of a lead up this has been. Good job Marvel Studios, way to deliver an awesome Avengers movie. Get ready for it to finally land in the US this weekend!

Saw it last weekend in Mexico because I just couldn´t wait and it was AWESOME! Wont say any spoilers but the film is incredibley epic! I will be wathing it again at the midnight screenings tomorrow with my friends in 3D in the US premiere! It was about time it got to the US!

Just watched the Avengers 3 times, 2 yesterday, once today, and I'm going to see it again tomorrow for the midnight premiere. It is awesome!!! It does require a few viewings to take in everything, but by the 2nd and 3rd viewing, you know what to be looking for. Overall, the best superhero movie to date!!!

Saw it on Monday, it was a very entertaining piece of confectionary. Whedon does a solid job, giving everyone enough screen time and working in some (but not as much as you'd expect) of his snappy dialog. I would say that as a result of it having 5 protagonists, it can feel a little episodic at points, but that's barely a complaint.

Enjoyed it, funny in parts and a great 'Hulk' moment but........dare I say just another summer blockbuster!? And I'm a huge superhero fan! Good, entertaining but not the motion picture event of the decade....(awaiting the onslaught of abusive comments!)

  I know. There's an overhype about Avengers movie. We need to chill down. It's a good movie. I'm reading about this being the best comic book movie of all time (Newsarama). In my humble opinion, it's great, but not the best of all time.

    I think it was "fun" but lacked severely in the script and story. I don't feel a need to ever watch it again.

      It's a fun ride. Except for some very little moments where turns boring, but, I liked it. In my opinion, Captain America/Thor /The Avengers are at the same level.

Watched it last Friday. Enjoyed every bit of it. Wasn't expecting the well placed comedy and witty dialog but those scenes made the experience all the more memorable. Will be watching it again this weekend.

saw it yesterday, it was INCREDIBLE! for what it was. meaning it's not suppose to be DEEP. the CGI looked GREAT! the characters were everything you know and love! IT IS THE BEST OF WHAT IT IS! BATMAN is BATMAN. but THE AVENGERS rule all other Marvel productions, FF, DD, GR, Spidey, can't wait 2 see it today!

Look at those 3 Badass dudes, rocking their shades. All we need now is for them to walk in slow motion: Reservoir Film Dogs. Seriously though, these Video Blogs—just one of many things they do right—are what puts /Film and FirstShowing over sites like Deadline, for me anyway. The interaction gives off a Disneyesque relationship with their visitors (i.e. doesn't come off as just another cold business model), and makes for a fun experience. Good work, Mr Yellow, Mr Blue, and Mr Silver.

I didn't see the movie (yet), but you guys reminded me of how I felt the first time I walked out of 'Star Wars - A New Hope' : totally excited, so many things to say, trying hard to be a critic, but failing hopelessly to do so, like real goobers

The credit scene with a certain bad guy which I wont name before saturday(but maybe someone spoiled it for you).....omfg.....OMFG!!!! That....that is gunna be the greatest nerdgasm ever-if they make it I don't think it will be The Avengers 2 or 3, I think it will be something separate, with the name of the mini-series. And in 2 parts What do you guys think?

I found it to be a little more fun then Thor or Captain America which i hated. Def dont care to watch this again. Commercials showed everything. was hoping they left something out.

After I saw the second trailer I was sold and it paid off. I didn't care for Captain America: The First Avenger and Thor was kind of amusing, but nothing like X-Men First Class. Now The Avengers, wow, that's what entertainment is all about.

Question for a comic book guru.. Why is Spider Man not in the Avengers Movie? He is an Avenger correct? And what is this I hear about HellBoy? I don't get the connection...
