Tron: Uprising

"He's good, but he's no Tron." Let me take a moment to feature something a little off our map, but totally awesome nonetheless. There's a new animated series that will be airing in June on Disney XD called Tron: Uprising, which takes place between the events of Tron and Tron Legacy in the computer world. We featured a very early teaser for this from the Tron Legacy DVD last year, but USA Today has unveiled the first full-length preview online, and to be frank, it's badass. This looks damn good. The style is great, it looks dark and action-packed, yet with interesting characters. Give this a shot, you might even be impressed, too.

Watch the full one-minute preview of Disney XD's Tron: Uprising, airing this June, via USA Today:

Produced by Disney Television Animation, Tron: Uprising follows Beck (voiced by Elijah Wood), a young program who becomes the unlikely leader of a revolution inside the computer world of The Grid. Beck leads his family and world in revolution against the tyrannical Clu and his No. 2, General Tesler (voiced by Lance Henriksen). Fortunately, Beck has been trained to fight by the top warrior in all of this digitized world, Tron (voiced, of course, by Bruce Boxleitner). The voice cast also includes Emmanuelle Chriqui as Paige, Mandy Moore as Mara, Nate Corddry as Zed, Paul Reubens as Pavel and Reginald VelJohnson as Able. At the moment, all it says is coming "This June", so stay tuned to Disney XD for any the updates. Look good?

Not too fond of the style but it does look like an interesting series. Reminds me of the old Gargoyles cartoon also from Disney, it kind of has that same vibe to it.

    No thanks.

I think this could be better than the movies.

       same here

What the friggin' hell is this?

Meh. The first teaser they showed a year or so ago had me more interested than this one. :/

You should REALLY be telling people to watch The Legend of Korra. It's the sequel to Avatar: The Last Airbender and looks SO much better than this.

this implies that he's telling people to watch the show... he's saying watch the trailer.

Looks cheap and like it has 2 frames a second animation.

I love the style. The animation really reminds me a lot of motion comics and the old MTV series Aeon Flux... especially the body proportions and the fluidity of the animation (or lack thereof)  It also reminds me of MTV's Spider-Man from after the first movie. I'll be checking it out.

    This ruined tron for me!

You haven't even seen it yet.  I suppose the playboy spread was sacrilegious too?

I'd rather have a good live-action sequel than a Saturday morning cartoon version.

The style isn't so bad, but I'm really tired of shows that take place between prequels and sequels, like this and Clone Wars, etc... How long can it run when we know how it ends? Especially with Clone Wars, hasn't there now been more screen time devoted to what happens between Eps 2 and 3 than all 6 films combined?
  • JediBilly
So, that means they're not making any more sequels!?

Nice modeling and backgrounds, but character animation looks choppier than Disney's usual benchmark...what did they use...Flash? :P
  • Anon Seven
really, Really, REALLY dislike the choice of animation style.. awkward and spindly bodys, plain cheap looking.  Love the Tron franchise so I'll be watching anyways.

I've downloaded all of the currently-aired episodes, and so far, it doesn't seem so bad. I'm just hoping that this actually sticks to its premise of being a prequel to Legacy, and doesn't branch off into its own continuity. According to the TV Tropes page for the series, the animation is actually CGI, but the production crew played with it to make it resemble a traditional Flash cartoon (cel-shaded character models and a low frame rate). It says a lot that the vehicles move much more fluidly than just about everything else.
