Despite a cameo in The Tooth Fairy in 2010, we haven't seen Billy Crystal in a live-action film since Analyze That in 2002, but now the actor is back with another sparsely seen popular talent from the 80's and 90's as he joins Bette Midler in Parental Guidance. The new comedy from family filmmaker Andy Fickman looks like it'll hit with the older crowd looking for something to do during the holidays when it hits theaters this Christmas, but it feels like a pretty lifeless family comedy. I don't mind seeing Crystal and Midler back on the big screen, but I just wish it was with some better material. Watch the full trailer below!
Here's the first trailer for Andy Fickman's Parental Guidance originally from Yahoo:
Old school grandfather Artie (Billy Crystal), who is accustomed to calling the shots, meets his match when he and his eager-to-please wife (Bette Midler) agree to babysit their three grandkids when their parents (Marisa Tomei, Tom Everett Scott) go away for work. But when 21st century problems collide with Artie and Diane’s old school methods of tough rules, lots of love and old-fashioned games, it’s learning to bend – and not holding your ground – that binds a family together. Directed by Andy Fickman (You Again, The Game Plan, Race to Witch Mountain) from a story written by Billy Crystal and a script from Lisa Addario and Joy Syracuse (the duo behind Surf's Up). The film hits theaters on December 25th for Christmas this winter.
