Drew: The Man Behind the Poster

Way back in August of 2010, we called your attention to a documentary called Drew: The Man Behind the Poster which is about the legendary Drew Struzan, the iconic poster artist we all know and love. Erik Sharkey along with Greg Boas and Charles Ricciardi are the filmmaking team behind the doc that features interviews with Guillermo del Toro, Steven Spielberg, Harrison Ford, and so many more. This past May the production was looking for money on Kickstarter to help with post-production costs, and that goal was met. Then last week at Comic-Con a new trailer was unveiled, which you can watch below!

Here's the new trailer for Erik Sharkey's Drew: The Man Behind the Poster, from YouTube:

Drew: The Man Behind the Poster is directed by up-and-coming American filmmaker Erik Sharkey, of a few shorts previously. Sharkey along with Greg Boas and Charles Ricciardi are the filmmaking team behind this doc. "Telling the tale through exclusive interviews, the journey spans Drew's early career in commercial and album cover art through his recent retirement as one of the most recognizable and influential movie poster artists of all time." These three filmmakers have crafted a comprehensive presentation about the artist, the art, and the stories behind Drew's most recognizable creations. Stay tuned for release date updates soon!

    Awesome! Such a legend.

All his movie posters are posters that stuck out to me and I remember the most. In many cases his posters look even better than the great films they were made for.

That looks really decent! I got interested just watching him do some little technique bits in the trailer so I'll definitely be looking out the film. I think before the internet marketing, you really had to grab people with a cover or a poster. I'd stand in the video shop studying covers for a long time, also we'd wait til they threw out the posters round the back and collect them. I'm not sure nowadays having such a good poster means as much, with the internet there can be multiples and mostly they use photoshop instead of an artist. The era we have now will have a documentar called 'Photoshop: The Program behind the Floating Head Posters'.
