The Mortal Instruments Trailer

"If I'm not human, than what am I?!" A mundane. What's a mundane? You have to watch this (or read the books) to find out. Screen Gems has debuted the first teaser trailer for The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, an adaptation of yet another "bestselling" series of young adult fantasy novels, these written by Cassandra Clare. Lily Collins stars as Clary Fray, a young girl who doesn't know she has special powers to fight off demons until she sees the mysteriously sultry Wayland (Jamie Campbell Bower). This looks like a smorgasbord mix of Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, plus Blade or Van Helsing, but it could be pretty good.

Here's the first teaser trailer for The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, originally from MTV:

Harald Zwart (The Karate Kid, Agent Cody Banks) directs Mortal Instruments: City of Bones written by I. Marlene King and Jessica Postigo and based on Cassandra Clare's book of the same name. Lily Collins (The Blind Side, Priest) plays Clary Fray, a young woman who discovers she is the descendant of a secret cadre of half-angel warriors called Shadowhunters locked in an ancient battle to protect the world from demons. Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, Jared Harris, Kevin Durand, Lena Headey and Kevin Zegers. Sony's Screen Gems arm will release Mortal Instruments in theaters August 23rd, 2013 next summer. First impressions?

I want to like it, but it just looks like it is trying too hard to be a Twilight knock-off.
    • does'nt look a thing like twilight it looks more like preist/blade dont see and melodramatic love story i see bad ass action/demons,killing,supernatural,etc.

Okay I knew I would have to adjust to some of the actors poor acting ability (like the the actor playing Jace) but what's up with the trailer scene when Lilly Collins(Clary) hand is outwards and it's glowing that not even close to her powers in the book series Clary can only create new runes by drawing then ?????????
    • The actor poor acting quality is on the same level as the source material.

I wish Jared Harris would stop getting involved in these kind of shit projects. Such a great actor when he applies himself.
  • In the world of books becoming movies, it's hard du adjust to the actors and the writers own fantasies, I've read the books more than four times, and none of the actors looks like ny own versions. We just have to have a little faith that the writers, directors etc. will do as much justice to the story as possible in the world of technology!

Stop being so negative. It's a movie! The books are fantastic, but not everything can be in the movie....imagine that. I thought the trailer was awesome, well done!

Looks like Twilight got double teamed by The Matrix and Constantine. Looks about as good as a double dose of Reeves too

"Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, Jared Harris, Kevin Durand, Lena Headey and Kevin Zegers." I think that sentence is missing at least one verb.

what is it with John Murphy's "Surface of the Sun" from Sunshine's score being used in a lot of trailers lately?
    • truth
thought the same thing. personally, I'm not complaining

it's pretty cool actually. Sorta like the Man of Steel trailers using the stirring score from LOTR. It's nice seeing life being breathed back into well-done work.

I love the score from John Murphy, but it is played out too much on movie trailers. Apparently no one can come up with any original music lately. Actually the trailer doesnt look half bad
