Watch: First Trailer for Blue Sky's Animated 'Epic' Forest Action Film

Once known as The Leaf Men and the Brave Good Bugs, or just Leafmen, Fox has retitled this animated adventure to simply Epic instead. Blue Sky Studios (of Ice Age, Robots, Horton, Rio) is behind Epic, the story of an ongoing battle deep in the forest between the forces of good and evil. It kind of reminds me of Ghibli's Arrietty meets FernGully, or something like that. The forest looks beautifully animated and there's all kinds of crazy characters, like bad guy sharks, humming birds, butterflies and slugs. I am impressed, this looks expansive, fun and original, like Blue Sky has actually made something quite unique here. Take a look!

A teenager finds herself transported to a deep forest setting where a battle between the forces of good and evil rages on. She bands together with a rag-tag group characters in order to save their world -- and ours.

Epic is based on William Joyce's children's book known as The Leaf Men, being directed by Chris Wedge (who previously directed the first Ice Age and Robots for Blue Sky, plus voices Scrat, too). The voice cast includes Josh Hutcherson as Nod, Amanda Seyfried as Mary Katherine, Beyoncé Knowles, Johnny Knoxville, Aziz Ansari, Jason Sudeikis, Pitbull, Steven Tyler & Judah Friedlander. 20th Century Fox will be bringing Blue Sky's Epic to theaters in 3D starting May 24th, 2013 next summer.
