The Hunter

Last summer we got a teaser trailer for the Australian thriller The Hunter, directed by Daniel Nettheim and starring Willem Dafoe as Martin David, a mercenary sent from Europe by a biotech company to the Tasmanian wilderness on a dramatic hunt for the last Tasmanian Tiger. The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last year, and now we have a new full-length trailer for the film that looks like another great man vs. nature thriller to go along with The Grey hitting theaters today as well. Plus, this one has Sam Neill seemingly playing the kindred spirit of Jurassic Park's Dr. Grant. Watch the trailer below!

Here's the full trailer for Daniel Nettheim's The Hunter from Apple:

Based on the acclaimed novel by Julia Leigh, The Hunter is a powerful psychological drama that tells the story of Martin (Willem Dafoe), a mercenary sent from Europe on a dramatic hunt for the last Tasmanian Tiger. Against his wishes, Martin's only option is to stay at a base camp with the wife and spirited children of a missing zoologist. Drawn deeper into the wild landscape in his search for the mysterious Tiger, Martin's unexpected connection to the family and the majestic wilderness around him forces him to confront the reality of his work. Directed by Australian filmmaker Daniel Nettheim, from a script by Alice Addison. The film hits the iTunes store first on March 2nd and will be headed to select theaters on April 6th. Excited?

I saw this probably a month ago.  I went to Australia to visit my girlfriend and you were able to watch this on my V Australia flight.  I thought it was pretty good.  There were definitely some random things that happens in the film that makes you say "why the f did that just happen", but other than that I thought it was entertaining.

I saw this film i think 9th of december in a small independant cinema (who still had advertisements/cardboard cutouts up for the dark knight). I liked it very much. I"ll probably end up reading the novel down the track.

Great movie. It has just been released here in Australia on dvd. I'm always tough on Australian films of late because I don't think they have been as good as they once were back in the 1980's and the 90's. But this film was surprisingly good.
