Watch: Kick Ass Trailer for Dave Grohl's 'Sound City' Sundance Doc

"Let's rock. Let's play. Let's record." Time to rock out to some mixers! Another highly anticipated Sundance 2013 film announced yesterday in the Premieres line-up is a documentary from Foo Fighters frontman and Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl, making his feature directorial debut. The doc is called Sound City and it's about the world famous Sound City Studios, where they recorded some of the greatest rock and roll legends. But it's more than just that. Through interviews and performances with the legendary musicians and producers who worked at America's greatest unsung recording studio, Sound City, we explore the human element of music, and the lost art of analog recording in an increasingly digital world. This looks superb.

Musician Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters and Nirvana is directing and producing the feature documentary Sound City about the infamous recording studio in Van Nuys, California. The film was conceived by Grohl after purchasing the legendary Neve 8028 recording console from Sound City Studios last year. The console, built in 1972, is considered by many to be the crown jewel of analog recording equipment, having recorded such artists as Neil Young, Fleetwood Mac, Tom Petty, Cheap Trick, Guns and Roses, Fear, Nirvana, Rage Against the Machine, Nine Inch Nails, Metallica, and countless other musical legends over the past 40 years. Sound City is set to premiere at the 2013 Sundance Film Fest in January, arriving in theaters February.

i was sold by the :35 second mark.....i liked seeing some of the great performers in this...... and several people in the doc are asking some VERY relevant questions....can't wait to see the whole thing! this looks excellent.

      Regardless he know's the history of Sound City; through first-hand experience and word-of-mouth of colleagues. He would naturally understand the significance, getting to the meat of the matter.

Any one of those musicians could have bought that place if it means THAT much to them and others musicians. And most of them are the reason why these places close up shop because of the digital age. I will check this out because I'm fascinated how albums are made and what people went through to make them and the places they recorded them in. But please, let's not get all sentimental here.
