The Host

"This one wants to live." If it wasn't for the expected melodramatic love triangle we've come to expect from author Stephenie Meyer, this adaptation of The Host from director Andrew Niccol would be even more enticing. In what is essentially an updated version of Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Saoirse Ronan plays Melanie Stryder, one of the last people fighting an invading parasitic alien methodically taking over humans. We catch glimpses of the alien race living in human bodies (Jake Abel and Diane Kruger) and their advanced technology, and also Stryder's human lover played by Max Irons. Could be good? Watch!

Here's the full length trailer for Andrew Niccol's The Host originally from MTV:

Andrew Niccol (In Time, Gattaca, Lord of War) wrote and directed the adaptation of The Host, based on the sci-fi novel of the same name by Twilight author Stephanie Meyer. Saoirse Ronan stars as Melanie Stryder, one of the last people fighting against an invading parasitic alien methodically taking over humans. This also stars Diane Kruger, William Hurt, Jake Abel, Max Irons and hits theaters on March 29th, 2013.

Not bad. I mean, I enjoyed In Time and Gattaca, so it definitely looks like it has potential.

The trailer makes it look hokey, but I'm not gonna lie, I LOVED the book. A million times more substance than Twilight.

Yeah, it was a pretty damn good book. The trailer is probably just throwing out the love perspective of it to get the Twilight demographic.

Haven't read the book, but my niece loved it, and is eagerly s awaiting the film. Hope she won't be disappointed.
  • K.A Applegate must be MAD..MAD I TELLS YER!!
    • I always wanted an Animorphs movie. Or miniseries. Something with budget that could really do the animals and sci-fi special effects.

    Stephanie Meyer must be terminated.

      How do you know?
  • I do like the look of the world it's set in. Might be a yawnfest though, I'm wondering how they'll overcome the body snatchers.

Loved this book. Yea, it's got young people and some angst, along with the scifi stuff, but it was a great read, and made me cry, once or twice.
    • The characters are older in the book. Saoirse is definitely a few years shy of Melanie. They cast her first, so the other two had to be around the same age. The majority of the fandom was pretty skeptical of her casting.

this so gay my toaster started eating out the waffle maker
  • Meyer certainly appeals to a specific generation.

Could never get into the book. Tried a few times but it just didn't hold my attention. Love the Imagine Dragons song in the trailer, though... They get kudos for that.

I finally got to watch the trailer last night. It doesn't convey the story well at all, other than pointing out that the world is mostly populated with human-hosted aliens now. Hopefully, the next one they release will do a better job.
  • The idea seems pretty awesome, but I'm sure the execution is horrible. The screen writer is 2 for 3 cause "In Time" went the same way this one looks like it will. Good idea poor execution.
