G.I. Joe: Retaliation

"There's a reason we call ourselves Joes." Paramount has launched a second trailer via Machinima for Jon M. Chu's G.I. Joe: Retaliation, the follow-up sequel to the G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra live-action adaptation a few years back. Chu reinvents the series, takes it back to its badass comic book/action figure/cartoon roots and definitely ups the ante with action. Channing Tatum is back again as Duke, with Dwayne Johnson, Adrianne Palicki, Ray Stevenson, Bruce Willis and Byung-hun Lee back as Storm Shadow. Even if you didn't like the first movie (like me!), give it a shot, cause even I'll admit it looks kind of awesome. Enjoy!

Watch the second official trailer for Jon M. Chu's G.I. Joe: Retaliation, in high def via Machinima:

G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation is being directed by Jon M. Chu (Step Up 2 & 3D, "The LXD", Justin Bieber: Never Say Never) from a script by Zombieland writers Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick. Channing Tatum returns as Duke, along with Ray Park as Snake Eyes and Lee Byung-hun as Storm Shadow. Other newcomers to the cast include Bruce Willis as General Joseph B. Colton, Adrianne Palicki as Lady Jaye, Ray Stevenson as Firefly, Joseph Mazzello as Mouse, Arnold Vosloo as Zartan, D.J. Cotrona as Flint, and RZA as the Blind Master. Paramount is planning to release G.I. Joe: Retaliation starting on June 29th, 2012 this summer.

I never bothered with the first one, but Willis, Johnson, this looks like a decent action flick.
  • The first movie was terrible... looks like they're stepping it up.
    • BeepBeepRichie
By 'stepping it up' do you mean: the studio added some bigger names to make this mindless piece of CGI garbage less painful than the first?
      • would you like to clean the sand out of your vagina now?
      • Hold up. It's GI Joe. Of course it's mindless and filled with CGI but that doesn't mean it's garbage. It's fun. Not every movie is meant to be a serious endeavor that has to be taken seriously. I think the story looks better, I think the lack of CGI compared to the first is better. The entire finale in the first film was mindless CGI pulled right out of Star Wars and placed under water and it didn't work. This seems to be dropping that gimmick. So thanks for trying to speak for me but you're totally wrong on how I feel.
  • Yup, works for me, big, loud, explosiony :-) My needs are simple 😉

Well I know I am one of the very few who liked the ridiculousness of the first movie (hey does ice really 'sink' in the artic?:P) but they are picking up/expanding on the one good thing from the Rise of Cobra...the plotline that put Zartan in place of the President. That's pretty cool if you ask me. But you said it Michael, big, loud and with Chu at the helm, FUN! So calm down people, it's a movie from a fun toyline and cartoon show. Was Transformers any different?
      • Scopedog
Good points, Ridge. it me, or are there Rattlers in this one?  I'll give it a shot, since I liked the first film.  I'm not expecting CASABLANCA, just a fun time at the movies.
  • Where is Sienna Miller?
never watched the first one. This looks a tiny bit better then the first. But not by much.

I have heard from people who went to a few test screenings of this and they said this movie is a certified piece of shit. Stay away.
    • BeepBeepRichie
I know. Unfortunately, studios have learned that they can churn out movies without investing in story, if the property in question already has a built-in audience (Transformers, GI Joe). Just plug in some CGI and there ya go.
  • I'm kind of disappointed by this trailer.  I wasn't a fan of the first G.I. Joe movie, but this trailer that I saw  when I saw Ghost Protocol, blew my mind.  The sound editing and the attention to movement with the music is just fantastic and this new trailer lacks everything that made me excited.  You had me at "Seven Nation Army"

with that quick cameo in the trailer, it looks like channing tatum is not going to have a big part in the movie
  • SuicidalOptimist
... -.- Stop making me watch shitty movies just for you, Dwayne Johnson, god dammit! Well, I really want him to get away from all the silly Disney/kids movies so I -have- to support his action movies when he does one here and there. Even when it makes me wanna die on the inside.
    • Rhythm Master
I'm sure he really appreciates your support buddy.

        "I'm not your buddeh, friend!"

I somewhat enjoyed the first one. I'll give this one a chance as long as Marlon Wayans is nowhere in this. Snake Eyes looks a jillion times better this go around. Hopefully they gave him more action scenes to showcase his badassness. I'm glad they got rid of that stupid mouth. The white house has eyes!!!!!!
    • Scopedog
True.  I did like the first one, for what it was--wasn't expecting CITIZEN KANE anyway. Plus, I think I spotted Rattlers in the trailer.  And I LOVED that plane as a kid (even if it was a Cobra jet).  I'll give this one a chance.
  • Chris_G
I thought the first one was okay, nothing great, but okay...I only ever watched it once(maybe twice)...but this certainly seems like a bit of a step in the right direction. I might give it a try...probably not in theaters though.
  • I am sure that this will be something amazing!Bruce Willis is just the man!
  • Bl00dwerK
I liked the first one but I think I'm gonna love the second. Can't wait!
  • Dkundenreich
Does anyone else think it looks like channing tatum is killed at the start of the movie?
  • Akirakorn
Time to nitpick again: "Other newcomers to the cast include... Arnold Vosloo as Zartan...". Nice to see you're still copy-pasting the same description. Poor Mr. Vosloo, no respect.
  • Max Renn
The first one had less story and worse acting that the Saturday morning cartoon of the 1980s.
  • batsupe
This trailer has more footage but isnt quite as good as the first trailer. Still looking forward to seeing snake eyes back in action though!
  • Goodbye tatum! the drive thru is getting backed up! get back on that window!
  • I'm so watching this movie.... the first one was very good, it was like Transformers, a dream come true. The only thing I'm concern about is that all the Joe's die on this one, specially main peeps like Duke, and I don't see Scarlet! Well, at least Bruce Willis is there to fix it!.... :o)
