Will Smith Looks to Direct Vampire Infused Tale 'Redemption of Cain'
Nearly two years ago to the day, we heard that Will Smith was attached to star in a film called The Legend of Cain, a story about the infamous Biblical feuding brothers Cain and Abel that somehow brought vampires into the mix, though details were scarce on the plot. At the time, no director was attached, though Smith was ready to star in the film, even though he already tackled vampires in I Am Legend. Now Deadline has word that Smith, who is also producing the film through his Overbrook Entertainment banner, is also looking to make the film, now with the working title The Redemption of Cain, his directorial debut too.
The question is just how good is this script to do something different with vampires? We already have sparkling romantic vampires, historical vampires who fight United States' presidents, suave vampires played by Colin Farrell and many more. Perhaps the feud between Cain and Abel is driven by the fact that one of them is a vampire? It's not clear, but Smiith has been developing this one for awhile, so there must be something great about it that appeals to him (and he's known to choose his projects very carefully since he only does about one a year on average). Hopefully we'll hear more soon, so stay tuned.
