Silver Linings Playbook - Indie Spirits

The Independent Spirit Awards are an annual award given in the name of independent film, featuring plenty of those little indies which deserve the honor and recognition that, this year, they might not receive at the Oscars. The 2013 winners were announced Saturday, via Deadline, at a ceremony at lunch in sunny Santa Monica on the beach. The big winner this year was David O. Russell's Silver Linings Playbook, hardly an indie feature if I might say, which ended up taking home the Best Feature, Director, Screenplay and Female Lead/Actress wins. A shame Beasts didn't win. Read on for the full list of Indie Spirit winners.

You'll notice an [IMDb] link next to each film. This is so you can discover great new films, because there is guaranteed to be at least one film you've never heard of in here. Read on for a complete list of nominees and winners from the 28th Independent Spirit Awards. Winners from each category are designated in BOLD.

For last year's list of nominees and winners, which included mostly Michel Hazanavicius' The Artist with 4 wins, Christopher Plummer, Margin Call, 50/50, click here. While I'm happy to see that Benh Zeitlin's Beasts of the Southern Wild won Best Cinematography, plus John Hawkes & Helen Hunt from The Sessions winning for acting, and Derek Connolly of Safety Not Guaranteed, but I am not happy that Silver Linings Playbook won so many awards. Beyond the fact that it's not an indie (based on the budget), all these wins should've been given to Beasts instead. Ah well, more questionable awards season results, what can you do.
