Anthony Daniels Teases Return as C-3PO in 'Star Wars: Episode VII'
While we wait to see if official announcements and a teaser trailer for Star Wars: Episode VII are just around the corner, we have another potential casting tidbit. However, unlike most of the recent reports, this one isn't about another actor auditioning for a role. This time a familiar face from all six of the Star Wars movies has created a stir by hinting that he will be involved in the next installment of the sci-fi saga. Anthony Daniels is responsible for playing the paranoid protocol droid C-3PO, and while appearing at New York Comic-Con over the weekend, he might have let slip that he will be reprising the role yet again.
Film Buff Online (via Cinema Blend) has quotes from Daniels talking about the secret sequel, "Walls have ears. And we know what they look like. They’re very big ears…” This is where the actor proceeded to pantomime a set of Mickey Mouse ears over his head, and Daniels didn't divulge anything he might know about Episode VII. But when the floor was opened up to questions from the audience, someone asked him about being the only actor in all six of the films in the saga, and then led him on with "maybe seven?" And the actor immediately replied, "Yes, I am the only actor to be in all seven because I feel - Six! Whatever." Was that a slip up by Daniels letting the cat out of the bag, or is he just playing with us?
There have been talks of Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill returning in some capacity, but it hasn't exactly been confirmed. But if there's anyone who would likely have an extended role in Episode VII, and age wouldn't make a difference, it would be C-3PO. Obviously the droid would be like part of the family, so he would certainly be involved with the Skywalker and Solo clans. But we're not even sure just how the new heroes will tie in to the old characters. But if C-3PO does come back, you can bet that his counterpart R2-D2 will be beeping right alongside him. Stay tuned for anymore Star Wars updates.
