Ben Affleck & Matt Damon to Produce 'Sleeper' DC Comic Adaptation
While Ben Affleck has been busy directing thrillers like Gone Baby Gone, The Town and Argo, his longtime friend and frequent collaborator Matt Damon is gearing up to direct A Foriegner (aka A Murder Foretold). But now the two are getting together as producers to adapt a DC Comic Book series for the big screen. Variety reports Damon and Affleck are picking up the long-gestating adaptation of Sleeper, the Vertigo comic written by Ed Brubaker with art by Sean Phillips that launched in 2003. The project has been kicked around since 2008 with director Sam Raimi once involved and Tom Cruise attached to star. Read on!
For those who don't know, the comic is actually a spin-off series from another comic called WildC.A.T.s. The story centers on an operative whose fusion with an alien artifact makes him impervious to pain and allows him to pass it on to others through skin contact. He is placed undercover in a villainous organization by an intelligence agency and falls for a member of the group, named Miss Misery. It's set in a noir universe, so this would be a pretty stylish thriller. As of now, no director or stars are attached, but "The Shield" and "The Chicago Code" creator Shawn Ryan is adapting the comic with David Wiener ("The Killing"). Stay tuned.
