Bradley Cooper to Voice Rocket Raccoon in 'Guardians of the Galaxy'
With Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista and Vin Diesel already lined up to play four out of the five cosmic superheroes in Marvel's bold new franchise starter Guardians of the Galaxy, fans were left wondering just who would end up voicing the outlandish Rocket Raccoon. Names like Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler were rumored, but after a scoop surfaced from Latino Review this morning, THR has confirmed that The Hangover and Silver Linings Playbook star Bradley Cooper will lend his voice to the cocky machine gun-wielding hero who was seen but not heard in the footage show at Comic-Con last month.
For those unaware, Rocket Raccoon is a genetically modified anthropomorphic raccoon, who draws inspiration from the Beatles tune Rocky Raccoon (so both the Fab Four and comic book writers love to smoke pot). Rocket is known as the Guardian of the Keystone Quadrant, tasked, along with his partner Wal Russ (can you guess what kind of animal that guy might be?), take care of the mentally ill in an intergalactic insane asylum. He has a knack for guns and explosives, is a great pilot, and has a great sense of smell and impeccable hearing. Cooper seems like a great choice to bring the unique character to life.
In addition, after Elizabeth Olsen was rumored to play Scarlet Witch in The Avengers: Age of Ultron, the same report featuring the Guardians of the Galaxy casting confirms that the actress is in final talks to take the role. She's the twin sister of Quicksilver, and both characters will be seen in Marvel's ensemble sequel and Bryan Singer's X-Men: Days of Future Past, but there will not be a link between those two films for an even larger cinematic universe. Scarlet Witch can manipulate probabilities to create chaos and also occasionally reshape reality, and Olsen should have some fun joining the Marvel universe. Sound good?
