"Are you the next great filmmaker?" If so, listen up. Whether you're just breaking in or still coming up with ideas, now is the time to check out this new filmmaking contest called Prototype launched by digital media company Break Media & New Regency. The online contest will award eight up-and-coming filmmakers with $20,000 to create their action, sci-fi or effects-driven short films, and award one filmmaker with a feature film development deal. Wow, sounds like a big opportunity. Entrants have to submit a short film script or treatment and directing sample. "Prototype is a way to discover and cultivate talent by providing them with the financing, distribution, and access to the entertainment industry that they wouldn’t otherwise have."
For more info on the contest, visit BreakMedia.com/Prototype the official site. "Digital platforms have proven to be a hub for exciting new intellectual property and talent," said David Manpearl of New Regency. "We"re excited to partner with Break Media, one of the leaders in digital entertainment content, to uncover and cultivate the future of our industry online." Here's a very quick introduction video explaining Prototype:
Break Media is the "leading digital video publisher" behind sites like Break.com. Eight filmmakers will be selected to receive $20,000 each and the guidance of creative executives to make a 5-10 minute short, which will be distributed to Break Media's platforms. One filmmaker of the eight will be awarded a production deal with the opportunity to develop their short into a feature-length film, produced by New Regency Productions. As selected by creative executives at Break Media and New Regency, the eight shorts will be revealed in the fall with the winner announced in early 2014. It's all about "connecting the next generation of filmmakers directly to a major Hollywood studio and giving them the tools that they need to succeed."
The official deadline for submissions is August 31st, 2013. For complete rules and additional guidelines, please visit BreakMedia.com/Prototype. Follow Prototype on Facebook or Twitter. Anyone submitting?
