Bryan Cranston Unaware of Being Cast as Lex Luthor in 'Man of Steel 2'

Bryan Cranston

Rumors have been swirling that Bryan Cranston has been lined up to play Lex Luthor in the forthcoming Man of Steel sequel, which will likely be called Superman vs. Batman. The gossip took off after Metro asked Cranston if he'd be interested in the role, and he said, "Give me a call! I like Lex Luthor. I think he's misunderstood. He's a loveable, sweet man." Obviously, he's mostly joking, but that turned into a real casting rumor, and an unsubstantiated source claimed that Cranston was cast and signed on for six movies. But (via Empire) asked the actor about the deal and he replied, "Six? This is all news to me."

Cranston continued, hitting the nail right on the head, said, 'I think that maybe my name is bandied about because I’m known to be bald. ‘What bald guy can we get?’ The reality is they can take any actor and shave his head or put a bald cap on him.” And this seems to be the real problem with casting Lex Luthor. While Cranston is a fantastic actor, and his performance on "Breaking Bad" has been stellar, casting him as Luthor just seems easy and obvious. Sure, he could knock it out of the park, but why be so shortsighted and just give it to the first, popular bald actor you see. I feel the same way about Mark Strong.

This writer has already delivered a list of his choices to play Lex Luthor, but at this point in the game, we're not sure how big of a role the villain will play, and there might even be a chance that he's not even in the sequel. Right now Cranston is playing President Lyndon B. Johnson in the American Repertory Theater production of All the Way, and after that, "I think I’ll relax the rest of the year. There’s some irons in the fire, things that people are talking about, but nothing is set.” Since the superhero sequel doesn't start production until 2014, maybe Cranston will join the cast after all, but right now, we don't think it's likely.

I don't think that this is a good idea, because everytime I'll see his bald self, I will see Walter White.
  • Tyler Morgan
Corey Stoll. His name's been batted around certain sites and blogs and I think he'd be interesting.

Wow, if considered, thats a rather old Lex Luthor to begin this new franchise.
  • Edomaniac
Why not cast him and then let him keep the hair? That would throw everyone for a loop...

Looks kinda a little like the late Steve Jobs, so would be a great way to take the character IMO.

Brian Cranston is the perfect Lex Luthor (much better than the choices you offered, no offense). But I agree, it would remind us of walter white too much.

    Michael Rosenbaum FTW!

Exactly. It's kind of lazy. "Hey! That guy played an awesome bald villainous character before! He should be Lex!"
  • cuckoozey
I'd like to see Mr Cranston break away from the villainous bald type and branch out into other roles. Obviously the man is diversely talented...

Michael C Hall for Lex Luthor

if Mark Strong wasn`t Sinestro, I want him to be Lex.

he is still my favorite , cranston is way too old
Cause it's Heizenberg, not Cranston, who's up for the role.
  • Such heroic nonsense
Maybe a bald Vigo Mortensen or perhaps a bald Hugo Weaving
  • Juan Andrade
I would really like to see Michael Fassbenderin the role.

Thats how the horrible Halle Berry got the part of Storm, she was the most famous black person in Hollywood at the time.....period,thats it. Hollywood casting directors are lazy as shit.
