Charlie Day and Jason Sudeikis Reteam for 'One Night on the Hudson'
Though Charlie Day and Jason Sudeikis are already signed on to reunited with their Horrible Bosses director Seth Gordon for a sequel to the 2011 R-rated comedy, the three will also collaborate yet again for a thriller called One Night on the Hudson. Universal seems to be keen on staying in business with Gordon, especially after the success of his comedy Identity Thief with Melissa McCarthy, so they're handing over this spec script they purchased back in 2011 but never got off the ground. However, I can't help but think this "new" project sounds just like a more dangerous and action-packed version of Identity Thief.
THR says the story follows a by-the-books rookie cop on his first night on the job and his jaded veteran partner. The pair are tasked with transporting a federal witness from New Jersey to Manhattan. But the two end up having to contend with corrupt cops, some nasty criminals and crossing the Hudson River. The trade points out that this will be Gordon's first thriller, but given his past projects and Sudeikis and Day joining the cast, I'm betting this will be much more of a comedy than a thriller. However, it does sound like this could be something along the lines of old school 80s buddy cop action comedies like 48 HRS. or even Beverly Hills Cop. There's flares of Midnight Run in there too. Here's hoping the script from T.J. Fixman packs a stronger punch than Identity Thief though, since the script wasn't as strong as the cast implied.
