Christoph Waltz Joining De Niro & Clarke in Gaghan's 'Candy Store'

May 14, 2013

Christoph Waltz

At one time, names like Denzel Washington, Brad Pitt, Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz and others were said to be circling Candy Store, the new crime thriller from writer and director Stephen Gaghan (Traffic). However, none of those names had come to fruition until now. Deadline has learned that Waltz is now on board to star in the film which also has Robert De Niro, Jason Clarke (Zero Dark Thirty) and Omar Sy (The Intouchables, X-Men: Days of Future Past) already on board the film set up at Lionsgate. Considering how many names were circling before, there's likely some more casting that needs to be done. More below!

For those just joining us, here's the official plot synopsis: "The Candy Store interweaves several storylines set against a dynamic criminal underworld in Brighton Beach, Brooklyn. A former covert operative (Clarke) discovers the organization he was dedicated to fighting is now operating in his new backyard. When he teams up with a disgraced local copĀ  De Niro), their investigation leads them to an international sex trade entrepreneur (Sy), a Cold War consigliere posing as a typical American suburbanite (Waltz), and a beautiful girl wrapped up in an elaborate threat against Manhattan." Sounds pretty bad ass. We'll likely hear more cast members joining the production soon, and we'll be sure to keep you posted.

The film sounds like a Quentin Tarintino style story, hopefully if this is done right. I'm already excited for this.
