Shadow Dancer

"You're a terrorist. We've got you. You're finished. You're done." Moving out of the documentary realm and into narrative features, Academy Award winning director James Marsh (Man on Wire) is behind this British thriller Shadow Dancer, starring Clive Owen, Andrea Riseborough and Gillian Anderson. The first trailer has arrived and it looks like a tense slow-burning thriller, and a fantastic genre jump for Marsh. With flares of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, the film based on Tom Bradby's book of the same name (which he adapted himself) might be a nice break from the blockbuster season late in May. Watch below!

Here's the first trailer for James Marsh's Shadow Dancer, originally from Apple:

Single mother Collette McVeigh (Andrew Riseborough) is a Republican living in Belfast with her mother and hardliner IRA brothers. When she is arrested for her part in an aborted IRA bomb plot in London, an MI5 officer (Clive Owen) offers her a choice: lose everything and go to prison for 25 years or return to Belfast to spy on her family. With her son's life in her hands, Collette chooses to place her trust in Mac and return home, but when her brothers' secret operation is ambushed, Collette finds both herself and her family in grave danger. James Marsh directs the film written by Tom Bradby and it arrives this summer May 31st.

Well, I'm in the mood for an Irish Carbomb.
  • Looking forward to this. But Marsh has moved out of the documentary realm quite a bit- The King ('05) and Red Riding ('09).
  • I think this looks incredibly boring and makes me sad that Owen squandered his potential following Children of Men. I hope he takes an interesting role again soon in something other than a political thriller.

Actually it's brilliant. Doesn't always have to be load bangs gun fire to be a good film. It's one of the best slow burn films I've seen. You cannot judge by trailers especially when a small budget films concerned.

He was really good in The International too.
      • That's exactly the boring type of political thriller I'm referencing. I fell asleep during The International...

Gillian Anderson is unrecognizable these days.

This came out last year, you can rent it from Lovefilm...
