Dwayne Johnson to Lead 'Not Without Hope' About Survivalist Athletes
After hearing that Dwayne Johnson will lead a Navy SEAL team fighting demons, the actor is getting back into sports (kinda). After playing football in college and starring in the Gridiron Gang, Johnson will star in the drama Not Without Hope, an adaptation of personal trainer Nick Schuyler's memoir of the same name. But instead of focusing on the sports world, the film follows Schulyer as he and NFL players Marquis Cooper and Corey Smith, along with Schuyler's best friend, former college football player Will Bleakley, were on a fishing trip in the Gulf of Mexico when their boat capsized, stranding the men at sea. Read on!
One would think that Johnson might work better as one of the football players, but Variety reports he will be playing Schuyler. People might also think that four athletically fit grown men wouldn't have trouble surviving in these conditions, but they had no emergency beacon to alert authorities, and their cell phones didn't work so far out in the Gulf. And so the men were stuck for 43 hours with no food or water, clinging to the overturned hull through the night in the rough sea, tossed from the boat by brutal waves, sometimes losing track of each other in the ocean and battling hypothermia, hallucinations, hunger and dehydration. Sounds like a less gruesome 127 Hours on the ocean and a chance for Johnson to stretch his dramatic chops.
