Last year "Family Guy" creator and Ted star and director Seth MacFarlane hosted the Academy Awards to mixed reviews. A dated, musical-heavy tribute made the already slow-moving ceremony drag even longer despite some decent comedy breaks from the edgy comedian. Now the Academy is going back to the well for next year as ABC has jut announced that Ellen DeGeneres is returning to host The 86th Academy Awards, airing live on ABC, Wednesday, March 2nd, 2014. DeGeneres cleverly commented, "I am so excited to be hosting the Oscars for the second time. You know what they say -- the third time's the charm.”
Here is Ellen DeGeneres' opening monologue from hosting the 79th Oscars back in 2007:
Hosting the Oscars is no easy task, but DeGeneres is charming and also doesn't usually spark controversy with her digs at celebrities. In fact, she probably has the most friendly relationship with a lot of Hollywood's biggest names, and if she brings the charm of her daytime talk show to the fancy awards ceremony, then it should be fun. Dawn Hudson, CEO of the Academy said, "Ellen is talented, wonderfully spontaneous, and knows how to entertain a worldwide audience. She’s a big fan of the Oscars; we're huge fans of hers. It's a perfect match." In fact, in 2007, her hosting the 79th Academy Awards was such a good match she received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Individual Performance in a Variety or Music Program. Good choice?
