'Fast & Furious 6' Director Justin Lin Lands 'The Bourne Legacy' Sequel

At the end of the summer, there was a rumor going around that Universal Pictures wanted director Paul Greengrass and star Matt Damon to return to the action franchise that started with The Bourne Identity and has now spun-off into The Bourne Legacy starring Jeremy Renner. That rumor turned out to be false, but now the studio has found a director for the next sequel in the expanding Jason Bourne universe as Deadline reports Fast & Furious franchise director Justin Lin has been hired to take over Bourne for Universal. It's not surprising considering the bang-up job he did revitalizing a series that seemed to be tired.

The question is what will happen in the story. Will we merely continue the story that follows Jeremy Renner's Aaron Cross character, or will Universal be able to coerce Damon into returning in some capacity for some kind of team-up, or even possibly a face-off? Either way, Universal is keen on keeping their limited franchises alive since other filmmaking endeavors seemed to have fallen flat. Here's hoping The Mummy and Jurassic World work out for the studio, or they're going to need to dig a bit deeper in order to get some fresh properties off the ground. Thoughts?

it's perhaps a little late!.....now the're looking to re-boot the thing with Lin 'legacy' was a complete waste of time! all that was necessary was for Gilroy to write a continuation on from 'ultimatum' make sure greengrass is happy with it, and matt would follow...it's not rocket science for cryin' out loud!.......now the impact is lost, shame!

Yea, I got some thoughts. The Damon/Greengrass films were top notch and intelligent and the follow up, though not terrible, was a poor comparison. Now this guy with his Fast and Furious mentality will no doubt make a movie for those types of fans, but it's going further and further away from the excellent first three films. It'll just be a slam bam non-stop silly film like the Fast and Furious junk. If that's your bag, then you're lucky. I would fall off my chair in disgust if Damon even thinks about this nonsense, let alone becomes a part of it. I think not though. Same with Greengrass. They stopped because they knew they couldn't continue with the degree of depth and intelligence they both possess. Then the fools and the money changers took over and now you got what you got and will get what you'll get with this lastest director's hiring. Enjoy. Me? I'll go back and watch the others as I still find them top notch filmmaking.

I think Studio , must focus on SCREENPLAY , instead searching for director. Because : 1-Without a good story , Damon cant drawn in the bourne character and even mabye he blame himself for ruining the previous character whom he created. 2-NO ONE CAN REPLACE GREENGRASS (for his true understanding of cinematic action rules).

If Universal wants to re-boot a franchise they should consider Back to the Future using the new 3D technology and have the story begin in 2015 going back 30 years to 1985 and later into the future 2045 creating a modern-day trilogy as a tribute to the cast and fans that loved the original trilogy.

I actually liked Legacy more than the original trilogy so kind of hoping for Renner to get his own trilogy. The plot/action in legacy is weaker, sure, but imo Renner is a better actor and Cross is a better character than Damon/Bourne. If this guy can do great action and great plot, I would be very happy with a straight-up legacy sequel.
