Ender's Game

Meet the Salamander Army. Yes! We're finally getting some glimpses at the Ender's Game movie, written & directed by Gavin Hood, due out in theaters this November. Ender's Game fan site Ender News has just debuted a new photo today to tease their set visit from last year (we were there, too). We've already seen one look at Asa Butterfield as Ender Wiggin talking with Col. Graff, now we get to see Ender at Battle School talking with another friend of his, Petra, played by Hailee Steinfeld. The full shot gives us a wider look at the entire Mess Hall and scoreboard, where they're eating with the Salamander Army. Looks perfect!

We have yet to see a trailer, but I've got a feeling one is coming soon. Click to see high res via Ender News:

Ender & Petra in Ender's Game

70 years after an alien war, an unusually gifted child is sent to an advanced military school in space to prepare for a future invasion. "The relationship between [Harrison] and Asa [Ender] was very close, but he didn't overly befriend him off the set. He helped Asa by allowing that slight sense of intimidation to be there," explains writer/director Gavin Hood. Ender's Game, based on Orson Scott Card's beloved 1985 novel of the same name, is written & directed by Gavin Hood (Tsotsi, Rendition, X-Men Origins) produced by Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci. It also co-stars Ben Kingsley, Hailee Steinfeld, Abigail Breslin and Viola Davis. Summit/Lionsgate will be releasing Ender's Game in theaters starting November 1st, 2013 late this year.

Cannot wait. One of my favorite sci-fi books growing up.

  • Petra is a bad-ass. This character does not look like a bad-ass.

Asa Butterfield and Hailee Steinfeld are great choices to respectively play Ender as a teenager and Petra. I hope they cast a younger actor to play Ender when he is six and do not choose to have Asa play Ender at that age or eliminate that part of the story. I believe that showing Ender at age six is critical to understanding the character.

Loved the book. Tempering my expectations, since I'm sure it will be a lot different than the book (it needs to be to do well as a film). I'm picturing something along the lines of a darker Hunger Games in space. Enjoyed Hunger Games by the way. Still looking forward to it, but picture it being more teen/action-oriented than psychological/cerebral as the book...which I'm kind of ok with anyway.
  • In that case I will buy the Deluxe DVD boxset!
  • This makes go all sorts of ballistic! Love this book.

Alex, didn't some site post an image of the Tally Board that had gone through some post-processing to tighten up the focus, and reveal a touch more detail?
