Gerard Butler / London

Though Gerard Butler may not be back for glory in 300: Rise of an Empire, he will head into action sequel territory in a bit of a surprising follow-up. ScreenDaily has word from the American Film Market that Nu Image will be shopping around London Has Fallen, a sequel to this year's action thriller Olympus Has Fallen (just one of two films in 2013 where the White House being attacked served as the primary focus). Butler will also produce through his G-Base banner, and co-stars Aaron Eckhart and Morgan Freeman will reprise their roles from the first film. And believe it or not, Focus Features will release the film since it's a FilmDistrict original, and all their titles fall under Focus starting next year. More below!

Shooting is expected to begin in May of 2014 with a story that follows a plot to strike London during the funeral of the British Prime Minister. This time it's up to Butler (now head of the secret service), along with the President of the United States (Eckhart), and an MI6 agent to stop the terrorist threat. Angela Bassett and Radha Mitchell will also be back in the sequel with a script from the first film's writers Katrin Benedikt and Creighton Rothenberger. This seems like a wholly unnecessary sequel, especially since the film only pulled in $161 million total on a budget of $70 million. But maybe moving the location across the pond will get international audiences more interested. Here's hoping they go for the gold and change the title to London Bridge Has Fallen Down. No? I'll go wait in the car.

Cool! Of the 2 "terrorist's capture the White House" flicks, I thought Olympus was the far better film. Don't know how great the sequel will be, but look forward to any flick with Gerard Butler in it!

really? any Gerard Butler flick you look forward to? so what did you then think of Bounty Hunter? or Gamer even? the man has potential and he chooses these awful roles in awful movies. I don't get it. After 300 he could've taken on challenging roles and maybe become a respectable actor. He has yet to prove himself.

ALOL! Okay you did nail me there, Bounty Hunter and Gamer were awful. But what actor hasn't made a couple of bad choices in their career. Yet I can see why he took a flyer on Gamer, that movie had a lot of potential yet its failings were much more than that of its lead actor. And you forget so many other great movies he's been involved with, most notably Beowulf and Grendal. I loved the Ugly Truth. Law Abiding Citizen has its flaws, but he was awesome. And Chasing Maverics was excellent to. So yeah, I'll definatly give any film the mighty Leonidas is in a whirl!!

He made Law Abiding Citizen better than it should've been.

Thank you! And that's one of my criteria for what makes a good actor - anytime they can elevate a mediocre movie and make it into a good one. And Law Abiding fit that bill exactly!!
          • And Gamer.
      • A fella's got to work, and he's not doing Shakespeare. There were a few cringe-inducing moments in Olympus, but not from him. I enjoyed the film, and he's great in whatever he does.

I really liked Olympus has fallen ... its weird that they're doing a sequel but Im down ... ROC
    • Maybe they are trying to make it like a Die Hard franchise. Jezza keeps turning up in places and they fall.

Melissa Leo needs to get back. I'd watch it just for her crazed up act alone.

A late April Fools? Olympus Has Fallen was such a horrible movie, mis-handling its depiction of brutal violence against innocent people. There's a difference between violence and action in entertainment and this thing didn't have a clue how to go about it, creating a disturbingly, unsophisticated movie.
Thank you. I thought Olympus Has Fallen was racist and poorly constructed, now to hear they're doing another one? ) O_O That being said, I'll go see it. I'm intrigued what they could possibly do with it.

So they are basically making this film series as a big budget version of 24 and Butler's character being a cross between John McClane and Jack
  • London fell a long time ago. Even Jezza Butler can't save it.

Realy great news! I liked Olympus has fallen because it just fun to see! Every action movie is a sense stupid because nobody has so much luck as a actionstar! Just fun!!!

I wouldn't mind seeing this. Olympus Has Fallen was really fun!

Olympus Has Fallen was a guilty pleasure for me (with the arrival of the mech warrior straight out of an anime being the cheese highlight of the movie). I'm hoping this one will be the same. Please, make this more unintentionally cheesy. You're already on the right track with just the title and concept alone.
