Glenn Close Nabs Nova Corp Role in Marvel's 'Guardians of the Galaxy'
Another interesting name added the growing cast of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, which is looking to be shaping up quite nicely. Deadline is now reporting that Oscar nominated actress Glenn Close, who is nearing 70 years old, is in final talks for a key role. Close will be taking on a "leadership role in Nova Corp, the intergalactic space patrol" that will be a central part of the movie. Earlier in the week, we covered the rumor that John C. Reilly was also interested in the Marvel adaptation, plus Lee Pace is also set for a villain role. With Close in the mix too, the cast James Gunn is lining up for this is as unique as the concept itself.
Similar to the Green Lantern Corps from the DC Comics universe, Nova Corps is a fictional intergalactic military/police force from the Marvel Comics universe. The Corps' first appearance was in Fantastic Four Vol. 1 #208 in 1979. Deadline is claiming that Close's role in the Guardians of the Galaxy movie would be similar to that of Nick Fury in The Avengers, but for the intergalactic universe they're expanding to with this film. I'm excited, I just hope this turns out a lot better than Green Lantern, but I'm sure they want that, too.
Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, being directed by James Gunn, has a cast that currently includes Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer and Michael Rooker as Yondu, plus Lee Pace, Glenn Close and likely John C. Reilly. There are still a few more roles left to fill before shooting starts this summer. After getting some recent glimpses at more concept art and the Phase Two preview video, Guardians of the Galaxy is looking quite epic, but it will also be Marvel Studio's biggest risk to date. The Marvel Studios movie will arrive in theaters on August 1, 2014. Stay tuned for more updates.
