Universal was hoping that following the box office smash of Despicable Me 2 this summer, they would be able to please fans with the holiday-time spin-off film Minions, following the little yellow henchmen who work for Gru (voiced by Steve Carell). But now Deadline reports that Illumination Entertainment is pushing back the film to July 15th, 2015. The film takes place before Despicable Me, and reveals that the little guys have been around since the beginning of time. The story follows Scarlet Overkill (Sandra Bullock), a stylish bad-ass super-villain bent on world domination in the 1960s chosen as the minions new leader. Read on!
Jon Hamm is also on board voicing her inventor spouse named Herb Overkill. There's likely some more voices to be added, but otherwise most of the characters will be the gibberish speaking creatures. This move for Minions has forced them to delay their unknown project previously set for July 3rd, 2015 back to February 12th, 2016. There seems to be a lot of date shuffling lately with Pirates of the Caribbean 5 abandoning next summer's release, Ant-Man moving to summer 2015 and the Terminator reboot moving to the big July holiday weekend. Studios really need to get their projects in order.
